Pay for online videos  en

I want my clients to be able to access my videos online - not to download them. I can dort that out using Vimeo to embed the videos but I am not sure if I can get them to pay to access them online rather than download them. Pay to access the page would be fine.

You could store the videos on your server.

Then via a .htaccess file in the video-foleder, redirect calls for *.mp4 files to a script where you check if user is logged in.

This way you will be sure that only logged-in users have access to files.

But as you know - when a user then has access to a video/audio/image file - then it can be copied and distributed.

Thanks John.

Currently I store my videos on vimeo as that can help prevent downloads etc. I appreciate that with websiteX5 I can now get folks to buy digital downloads. What I am hoping to do is to get folks to be able to pay for access to a certain number of pages where the videos are embedded. I appreciate I can limit access to those pages - what I am not sure is whether I can get people to pay in return for access.

I will also be doing digital downloads at a different price and I am, as you say, aware of the risks involved there.

Thanks again.

Hi Duncan.

This seems to be a very specific request, which might be achievable in someway since such default option is currently not available in the software.

What about making use of the digital download function to provide restricted areas credentials?

You could create accounts which you will then delete after a certain amount of time and provide the credentials for those to the users who purchase a sort of subscription from your website.

Of course this would mean that you'd have to create and delete accounts on a daily basis according to which user has access to what, but it could be a workaround way to get what you are asking for

Let me know what you think

Thank you

Stefano

Hello Duncan

I have here : http://www.energifremtiden.dk/c4d/objekte.html an old testsite.

This is made for the purpose to let people see images of 3d-models.

Some of the models are free and can be downloaded by all.

Some can be viewed but can only be downloaded if you are logged in.

If you are logged in, then you are allowed to download. The system keeps track of how many downloads and the amount ( MB ) a user downloads. If either the number of downloads or the amount exceeds the allowed quantity, then the download will not be allowed.

Instead of models the files could be videos - and instead of the image you can see for all models it could be short demo-videos.

Is it something like this you think of?

Just to be clear : The system can be set up so it is the view that is restricted. It could be that when you are a member that are signed in, then clicking on a video will show the video. When not logged in you will see a message.

It is the access to the files that can be restricted. Even if you know the url for the file, you will not be able to access the file - unless you are logged in.

The access can be set up for a group of users.

I just tested. What I have told is correct, but you cannot have the "full" video shown. The system will start a download.

So - you can have an image or a "demo" video shown when clicking, but the "full" video will be as download. There is a script that checks for amounts so members can be allowed a certain quota for a period.

I will see if I can construct a system where the video can be shown "online" when a member is logged in.

I will be back later.

If I cannot find a better solution, will it be OK then with the download?
