Link text colour

Hi
If I change the active link colour to white and the rollover over colour to purple and it is on a dark background when I view in preview it is exactly how I want it. When I upoad it online it reverts to the website standard colours so that the text cannot be seen. Any ideas why the changes are correct in preview but not on the live website?. (Yes I have refreshed all of the pages)

What method(s) did you use to refresh the pages?

I checked in a different browser and it was fine so after clearing history in current browser where fault was showing it is now all OK.
