Unable to export project
Auteur : Nigel W.You will be aware that I have quite a large site.
I always had problems creating a IWZIP file but now it is impossible.
I have tried to create an IWZIP file yesterday and today but it doesn't happen!
I have tried using processes all the way down from "8" to "2"
I have thoroughly defragged my hard drive and I have 4 gb of memory and I have an Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU processor E8600 @3.33GHz 3.34GHz
Windows 7 64-bit O/S
EITHER, the export process makes two or three "progress" passes and then causes the programme to close...
OR, the export process makes two or three "progress" passes and then throws up:
"It is not possible to complete the export. (Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt)
IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT I HAVE A SAFE COPY OF MY WORK as this is a nationally renowned website with massive following.
Will you PLEASE offer a solution and/or make an "update" that will make the export happen?
Thank you,
Nigel

Nigel are you still uploading in one lump for 7 hours??
Auteur
Hey Ho!
The website uploading is fine.
Just that the IWZIP creation takes up so much initial memory that it blows out even my Ferrari PC!
Waiting for one of the technicians to reply to this to at least acknowledge that in a future update they will ease off this memory usage as they have done for the other "saving" processes.
(In actual fact, I found that I can create the IWZIP file from Windows Safe Mode BUT THAT AINT THE REAL SOLUTION!!! 9GB)

HELLO TECHNICAL SUPPORT???
Nigel split it up into manageable sizes..... Look at Amazon, Ebay etc.... they all do the same!!
www.frankscybercafe.com
I have the same problem and posted it a week ago. The answer I got was unusable. The problem even exists with a tiny test project. The progress bar stops at around 30%. The cpu usage is high and memory usage increases. My system is Windows 7_64 professional.
Change the screen resolution and DPI...... Try that??????
I do have friends running Win 7 Pro but we have had a lot of problems with this system. Not being able to start and upload etc... Incomedia was supposed to be looking into this but have given up methinks cos there are only a minority with this issue..... Not fair really in my personal opinion. X5 works great on Win 7 HP 64 & 32 bit though!!
www.frankscybercafe.com
The problem here is that no one understands or tries to understand what is wrong. Once again: The last page of WebsiteX5, Step 5, has three options. When you select the option at the bottom it should compress your whole project into one zip-file. That works fine with version 8 on the same system but someone changed that to the worse in version 9. The problem has nothing to do with uploading or downloading to the Internet.
One circumvention is: Get a zip program like 7-zip, go to c:\users\<your name>\documents\incomedia\website X5 v9 -evolution and pack the directory with your project name into one zip-file. Copy that to an external disk for a safe backup.

Hi Frank/D...
project saving IS a massive CPU user!
Precisely...version 8 DID the job ok.
My opinion is that someone very useful left the Incomedia team and the programming is just not as thorough.
I shouldn't have to split the site into smaller portions.
There are too many downsides to that.
I FREQUENTLY back up my hard drive (usually about 135 GB) with Norton Ghost and it takes no more than an hour-and-a-half!
So, why should a 9 GB IWZIP take a DAY-AND-A-HALF and I can only perform the operation in SAFE MODE??????
You all know me...I have had months of problems with this software and MOST of the problems HAVE been resolved but I still believe that this software is NOT the best web production suite in the world.
Trouble is, I am stuck with it unless I spend weeks reconstructing...lol!
No comments from TECH still??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Yes we know you are a competant user Nigel......
But you will NOT split your project into managable pieces to avoid lengthy uploads? Or excessive processor demands.....
The Canadian Boating Federation had the same problem as you until we knuckled down and divided the project into sub divisions. Even on the server we broke it down into 5 other sub-directories.
BUT? When visiting the site you cannot tell you are moving between server directories at all. This is how it's done on the internet Nigel visit the big sites and see how they put together their sites!!
You don't think there is only one man sat behind a desk controlling Amazon, Ebay, Game etc... do you??
Just a thought buddy....... (By the way where are the staff? ha ha)
www.frankscybercafe.com
You know that the staff is off during weekends...
B
BMT 3000..... Nigel asked for assistance 7 days ago and no one has answered?
That is why we're asking where the staff are......

Aha Frank!
At least one INCOMEDIAN around, eh?
I hope I have the LAST laugh!
Dear Client,
We have seen that on some very large projects, this project also employs a lot of time in creating files. In these cases, the memory that the software is not enough to finish the rescue operation and it appears that signaling.
Because the signaling happens in case of memory overhead and only in case of compression of the project and not through an 'export files to disk or the internet should try opening the project and try to break its project into multiple projects. To do this you should be able to create two projects that have different links.
For allow connections will have to act in this way:
Unfortunately, his project is very large (more than a Gigabyte).

Hello Luca...
I have difficulty in understanding your syntax...your English.
I think this would be really confusing, especially if another person was attempting to take over the website running.
I just find the design of this version 9 so cumbersome and unruly.
I will think on this but, at the moment, I can perform the action in Windows "SAFE" mode.
I just want the process to work and the finished IWZIP to be usable.
MAYBE, a future upgrade can address this in some way.
Hello Nigel,
I'm sorry for my English poorly performing. You can try to use Windows SAFE Mode, but we don't know for sure if the problem is completely solved so. You should try to export divider the project into two parts; in this way you can execute the links of level with levels missing.

Hi Luca...
I sort of get the gist of what you say and from Frank.
I think this will be too complicated for me and take too long, however.
(Anyway, HOW does one set up two cloned menus and pages on two separate projects that have the necessary links to the other project? I wouldn't know how to make sure BOTH projects were the right size, etc.)
Nigel
Nigel you can make clones within X5 V9 by duplicating the project... Good Luck!
Just because they advertise V9 can make a 10,000 page website.... X5 users PLEASE DO NOT attempt to do this!!

Hmmm...reminds me of that famous Incomedia theory:
"What do you get when you cross a bridge with a bicycle? The other side. "
Links? I AM the missing link!
Clones...yeah...I like them hot with lots of butter and scream!
Here Nigel visual help.......

Hi Frank...
Yep...I get that ok...just not sure HOW to do all the necessary links nor whether I want to or not.
I may look at other software IF I find that "SAFE MODE" eventually fails to back up the IWZIP, rather than do all the work on Evolution.
I'm talking to a web designer at the moment.
Best,
Nigel
Hello Nigel,
using WSX5 you can create small or large documents. To measure how big a project is, you don't have to consider just the number of pages. You may create a 10 pages website, but add in all the pages 100 slideshows with 100 images of 10MPx size everyone!
Moreover the same document could work correctly on a PC but not on another one because of the hardware settings.
It is important to split the document in different projects. This way permits you to better manage the work and the future updates you will have to do on the project itself.
To correclty split a project is quite simple technically. Just duplicate it and then remove the pages from the map.
The problem could be to find the correct way because it depends on your project's argument! I just try to give you an example:
A Company could have:
Every sub projects could have a "common menu" that permits to "jump" to a different sub-project.
Hope this could help!
Regards, Steve.

Hi Steve..
Thanks.
I see what you're saying but how do you link them all?
There should be a common home page and a common menu on both projects...right?
It would mean that half (for example) of the main menu tabs would have to reroute to the second project but HOW?
I may be wrong but I don't see the facility for creating an external link from any particular menu button???
Auteur
Ah...just found Page/Level properties icon for creating the link.
May have to think about this, I suppose.
Please note that you don't have to recreate the same menu in all the websites. In my example you can create a sort of sub-category.
In the "Company website" example, you can have 2 main links: products and services.
If you click on the product link you could jump in the "products sub-website" where the menu just shows the products! It is important that in all the pages (or in the Header/Footer) you insert a link to go back to the main website!
Obiously you need to find the correct way based on the argument you are talking about in your website.

I'm coming back to this again.
EXPORTING to the website is absolutely no problem...it's very fast and I have no problem with it.
I thought long and hard about splitting my project into two or even three and I just saw a multitude of complications.
At the moment, I am saving my HampsteadHeath.Net project files to two external drives, a secondary PC drive and a very large USB stick.
++++++
I really really want a way, as in Version 8, where the "IWZIP" file can be created without the heavy memory use.
Incomedia should be able to create an UPDATE, where this process is staged in such a way as to perform the function better.
I am worried about the future and another person's problems if they ever have to take over my site!
Thanks,
Nigel
Hello Nigel, I really suggest you to split the project because I can only see advatages.
Let me know which are your doubts so we can discuss them and I can help you...
I suggest you to open a new private post, so we can go deeper in your project file.

Oki Steve and thanks.
I'll leave this awhile and then get back to you when there is less site activity.
