This has happened to me before. then after weeks the problem corrected itself? Here is the message I received when trying to upload changed files to my site:
"Unable to connect to server. Please check with your internet provider that you have the correct connection information"
Why all of a sudden is this happening? My web address is www.attagirl.com.au
I am just selecting to upload updated files only, it's not happening. Your help to get things sorted would be appriciated. Thanks Anne

that's strange, maybe something changed at you webhost? Or try again later.
If it does not help contact your webhost and check with them settings set in step5.

Hi Andre, not that strange as I have read others with the same problem. As I mentioned it happened once before and then corrected itself.
I have version X5 version8 evolution.
I have read others tried turning off firewall and internet protection - I HAVE TRIED
also read others tried moving files to C Panel, with no luck.
I have contact my webhost and they have no idea?
So why after never having a problem this is happening??
This is Step 5 - where would I find the settings?
Anne, have you contacted your service provider?
If it is an urgent update you might like to export the website to a folder and then use FileZilla (or similar) to transfer the content of the folder to your website hosting.
Whilst unlikely, it is possible your hosting no longer supports the FTP built into EVO 8

As I am not an expert in web design, this is why I purchased a package that had all the technical requirments to design and upload to the net. So you have no solution for me. I have contacted my service provider.

Where or how do I find the settings at step 5:
I know my web address, user name and pass word. Is that all I need to know???

Version 8 is years old now and it maybe, as Esahc has suggested, that your hosting has updated their servers, settings, PHP minimum or similar and the FTP no longer works properly. Another thing to consider is what version of Windows you are running. Version 8 ran fine with Windows 7 and 8 but if you have updated your Windows version recently (even if it just security updates for Windows 10) the there may be firewall settings in Windows that are causing issues.
Can you let us know what version of Windows you have (and you will need to go to the This PC app, click on Properties and scroll down the About section until you find the details. That will help us identify if there are any issues there. Incomedia won't offer support for sucj an old version, so it will be up to volunteers from the community (such as Esahc and others who don't work for Incomedia and do this just to be able to share their knowledge) to help further.

Anne, whilst we would like to help directly I am afraid your only choice is to contact your hosting, I doubt that windows, 3rd party av or your firewall is causing the issue (I guess we'll find out after you contact your host). Most offer a livechat option, although I prefer to talk to them if the host is in Australia.
They will make it very easy for you to ensure all is correct. You need to contact your host and provide your web address, username and password. If a recent update to your hosting is preventing connection they should be able to advise you.
To check your setting you need to open your project, click on step 5 export and then select upload the website to the internet (as I am sure you have done many times), here you will find the settings.
Hopefully the above screen shot looks the same as or similar to what you see. I no longer have access to WX5 v8 I am sorry.
The tansition from v8 to v9 was quite dramatic in terms of how WX5 works, much functionality has changed and been superseded over the years not just in WX5 but also web standards and rules. Be aware that even if you have no choice but to update to a current version (highly recommended), your website will need to be recreated, it can not be imported to a new version (there may be some on here who can help in the transition, but I am no longer one of them).

OK thanks. When I am in step 5, Export I do not get the functions to the right "Port" etc. I will chat again to my webhost.
Otherwise I am stuck.
It is possible the settings were elsewhere in V8. Hopefully someone will still have a copy that functions (2009 was a long time ago) and can offer further assistance.

OK, so I am in Western Australia, we are awake too. Some may think we are always sleeping, but not the case we are wide awake.
Anne, I loaded a very old version of WX5 (even older than V8)
When you go to step 5 upload to the internet, when you click next you will see your FTP settings
Since you know your username and password you can now contact your host and if they ask you to change your ftp settings you will be able to do so. I suspect your problems are either a temporary problem (& if you contact the host they may immediately be able to fix it) or a permanent problem because V8 does not support todays standards.
If your WX5 V8 is too old you can either export to disk and then upload via filezilla (we are happy to assist), or upgrade and recreate your website (recommended).

Hi Esahc, thank you for the response to my issue. Yes I have done all that and I know the FTP etc etd. I have asked my host company twice now about looking into it.
I have read on the community page that others have had this prob lem and tried moving files to CPanel or using filezilla with no success.
Thanks any way. I will see if my host company can correct. Otherwise my website can stay live but not updated. I am not going to totally design again. I will update my Facebook and instagram not a problem.
I would have done updates with incomedia, but it was not as simple as upgrading to a higher package, it meant redesigning. No Thanks.
Anne, just because I am nosey. . . . who is your host?
(Filezilla is almost bullet proof, if it doesn't work your host has an issue)
Back in V8 and thru to V10 I only ever used filezilla.

Hi, yep I have read that about CPanel and Filezilla, some have tried that with no success? My host has suggested that.
BUT I have no idea how to do that and this is the reason I purchased Incomedia as they offered all the tecnical stuff with a simple upload. Just put in you username, password and click upload, done.
Not happening. So I have an old version bad luck for me. And as I said before upgrading to higher version with incomedia was not just an upgrade that upgraded the existing version, NO it was like redesigning the website.
I am over it.
Anne, to be fair, it was point and click for 11+ years . . .
Your version 8 is very old, Incomedia totally changed how it worked when they released v9 (& even then the transition was difficult). For users with v11 or later the upgrade is a simple process and remains so.

For what it is worth, I get the same "unable to connect to server error..". I just keep trying and after about the third or 4th attempt it comes right. It stays "right" for subsequent exports and then it comes back. I originally thought that it was a WLAN issue so I did a wire connect to the router which did not help i.e., I still got the message.
I have just accepted it as an X5 quirk and ignore it as it is intermittent.
Incidently, whenever I get the message, I use my other machine to access the server through a browser with no issue i.e., I only get the error when attempting to Export using X5.

Thanks Dennis, I have given that a try with no luck. Will try again. This did happen once before and I left it for a couple of months and when I gave it a try I managed to upload my updates to my website. So maybe it will correct. At this stage I am over it, my website is live just not updated since Aug 2021 :(

Just uploaded a test project with V8, no problem at all.
And yes v8 is old and outdated, but if security is not a big deal and you get along then keep on using it.
If you still can't acces then contact you provider and check with them, maybe something has changed on there end.

Hi Andre, I have contacted my service provider, they suggested to do the following:
run Malware, remove crome, use edge instead. Shut down, re boot. Did all that and still no good.
I am now waiting on my service provider to call me back to see if they can offer any other possible solutions.
it's the settings for the ftp server / connection they need to verify, together with the settings you use. so there server adress and so on.
