Stephen, because I am very lazy and too old to learn clever things I try avoid html & css
There are many ways to add text over an image. The easiest (although sizing the image can be tricky) is to place a text object, select style and then image background and select your image. You can then place as much or as little text as you require.
Another is to place an image object on the page and then select style, text and select description. For the text I set background transparent and a suitable text colour, then I set the inner bottom margin to 50. I can the have the description always display or display on mouse over - the text can also be a link.
If these don't suit you then you can use optional objects. Both masonary and justified gallery allow placement of text in the middle of the pic through the description field for each image.
There are surely other methods, but hopefully one of these will suit your needs. If my explanation is not clear, please advise and I will provide screen shots.
