Recovering a web project and using the uploaded version  en

Please see the attached file as that is all I see when trying to open the website project. I was able to open an earlier version but  to make it the updated version would mean completely rebuilding the site. I have backups but I cannot find the latest and clicking on the Backup project, I only open the WX5 page to choose the projects and clicking on the latest project only brings me back to the invalid error notice.

Is there some way I can download the project from the web again?

What does the error message actually mean?

Many thanks

Adrian

Hello Adrian,
unfortunately it is not possible to retrieve the files that are published online to obtain an editable version of the project.
If you can provide me with a copy of the project folder I can take a look at what occurred specifically: as the message says, some of the files have been corrupted and so the software cannot properly read them to open the project.
By default you can find the project folders at C:\Users\YourUsername\Documents\Incomedia\WebSite X5 - Evo
You can archive the folder as a .zip or .rar file and upload it to https://www.swisstransfer.com/ and provide a download link here.
Thank you.

The file is uploading to the site but it's taking a long time and although I gave my email address and name, I cannot see where a download link is. Please let me know if I have done anything wrong here.

Thank you

Hello Adrian,
the download link should appear only after the file is fully loaded, if this does not occur perhaps one of the steps was wrong.
This is how the process should look like:

In this step, you will need to add your own address to receive a code after clicking "Transfer".

After adding the code, the upload will begin and, after the screen with the percentage of the loading, you should see a page like this, with a download link:

Hello Adrian,
from what I can see you sent an IWZIP file, rather than the current project folder, could you please clarify?
If you import the file you sent me, is it the earlier version that would need to be rebuilt?

OK, I dont know how I have done this but I opened the backup file I thought I had sent to you and  a more recent working project has come up which I can now work on so I hope that I have not wasted your time.

With regard to Backups: the options on the WX5 for saving are backups each time I upload which I have selected and also for each preview. As you say, by default, these save to Documents which is where I found some from long ago so I have at some point changed the save setting but cannot now remember what I did. I did this because the church website is all on a separate drive.

Would you advise that I only keep recent backups? I ask because I have backups going back 20 years through the various WX5 versions and wondered if that would be partly to blame for the invalid error.

Hello Adrian,
yes, you may want to only keep some relatively recent ones, as I would think some from years ago would usually not be useful for recovery purpose.
Other than these automatic backups, however, my recommendation is to periodically generate backups as IWZIP files with the Export the project function, as these are complete archives containing the project and are less likely to encounter issues with individual files.
You could also keep these files on an external storage to have a backup available should the computer encounter any issues.
I remain available.

Hello Adrian,

And next time to avoid a big fear, you can find here a free nice tool to save your iwzip file on a secure place in case of local PC / Disk crash... to have always a backup into secure place.

Hope this helps
