Html code for £ sign not working

I've typed the html code £ in a text box but when I test the page it shows exactly what I've typed rather than the pound sign. The html code does work correctly on another page. What am I doing wrong please?!

did you enable the html code in the menu at the top of the text box.
just tested it myself with the html enabled in the text box and works just fine, if you have any more problems let me know.
