Hi there. Having BIG PROBLEMS with spam to my email address. Had a word with my Hosts, and they said to delete the Guest book files, and it should stop. So I deleted the files. It did not stop. They checked again on my files, and said the guest book is still there and updating what ever that means ;/. It looks like the emails are now sent from me to me????. The emails from my business site are asking me to approve the comment. I am getting now in the region of 100 plus a day now. Really getting fed up with this situation. Please could you kindly take a look at my website structure, and delete the guest book file for once and for all please. Please help on this asap :///

Morning Jesse,

Did you delete the Guestbook from both Website X5 and your server?

If in doubt you could wipe all files on your server and reupload your entire X5 project again, without the Guestbook, of course.

Hi Paul.

Yes , I deleted from my website x5 and the server.

I have now deleted all files from the server site, and I will upload the new buisness site now. I will let you know if it sorts it.

Regards.

Jesse.

Hi Paul.

I'm still getting them. I have no idea now what to do :/. I have used this email for over 10 years now, I don't really want to delete my email account for good and start another one up.

Anything else we could try?.

I did read that I could try SPF (spoof) record. See if that helps???

If spambots have got a hold of your email address then unfortunately the damage is already done  Frown  I feel for you in this situation...  spam is a frustrating and annoying nuisance.

Damage limitation is your best option if you don't want to create a new email address (understandably)

Personally, the first thing I would do is look for an option in your server Control Panel to switch on and configure spam filtering.  Webhosts often include some sort of spam filtering as standard  -  SpamAssasin is a common one.

If you don't have one included as standard in your package, you could ask for one to be installed.  Once properly set up you'll notice a decrease in the amount of junk coming through.  Most software of this type gets smarter as you go along, learning your preferences, etc, and you can set up black and white lists with quite powerful filters.

It's a menace, I know.  I learnt the hard way to implement disposable, 'throwaway' email addresses when linking to guestbooks and the like.  Sorry I don't have any better ideas  Frown
