E-commerce v9: payment mode, order report, order completed  en

I have recently upgraded to version 9 and imported my version 8 websites. This upgrade has caused a few issues, some of which I list here.

Payment Mode. On the Step 2 screen, the user is asked to choose Payment Mode. Surely this should be defaulted and not shown on screen. If in the future there are more options then they can be shown. There is no choice, but the customer has to select it! There is a ‘-‘ (dash) against the payment type under the column ‘Price’. If no card charges apply then this should be 0.00.

Step 4 Order Report. 1) This is the order summary and shows the items with VAT as 20.00% / £nn.dd (calculated value). This would be much better if the VAT rate was included in the column header with just the calculated value shown on each row (or zero as appropriate). 2) The Shipping Address is shown at the bottom of the screen with Company, Customer Name, Last Name and the email address on the top row. The name should be on the top row, the Company on the second and the Email Address should not be included. On the 4th line of the address, the County is shown in brackets ()

Step 5 Order Completed. This tells the customer that the order is complete and shows an order number. But at this point no card processing has been done so what happens if the card fails to be authorised through the payment gateway? Surely this should be done before the order is accepted. What happens to the accepted order if the card fails authorisation? Thanks for your help

Dear Colin,

was your Evo 8 version up to date before you exported your project?

Was your Evo 9 up to date before importing it? This is very important, please check. Did you by any chance see this document before starting the export-import process: http://www.websitex5.com/download/v9/conversion_en.pdf?

Please read it and let me know if I can still help you.
Thank you!

I think my version 9 was up to date but not sure about 8. I do not see the relevance as my points are aimed at the new version and not the conversion from 8 to 9. It is not the conversion process that has caused these issues it is the new release of the software.

Surely I am not the only one who cannot understand why an order is completed and an order number generated BEFORE payment is taken!

Thanks

Colin

Dear Colin,

if your Evo8 was not up to date when you completed your project and exported it, it could have some errors in it, therefore the errors stand out in the new Evo 9. This is the reason why I was asking you!

The e-commerce gives you the chance to sell your products but it does not either store them or keep track of things, you need to do that yourself. I suggest that when you receive and order, you send an automatic reply to your customer stating that you have received it. Check all his details then confirm in order to avoid misunderstandings.

You are still not understanding my point. When using the shop to buy a product the steps are:

1. Add to basket from off the product page

2. Step 2 Shipment and Payment Choice

3. Step 3. Customer Data.

4. Step 4. Order Report

5. Step 5. Order Completed. Email sent. Order number allocated. But at this stage the customer has not made a payment.

Surely Step 5 should be the payment step followed by the order creation and email!!

Thanks

Colin

Thank you for explaining. What kind of payment method have you chosen?

If you add Paypal for example, you will be given a link you need to add into your shopping cart. Once the order has been confirmed your customer will then receive all the details in order to pay. If you are using Paypal, please contact them and ask them for details, if not please give me more info and add your website URLso that I may test it.

Thanks.

Samantha,

I agree with Colin, the payment step and the confirmation step are inthe wrong order. As it is now the confirmation of the order (with the order number) email is sent to the buyer BEFORE any payment has been processed, which doesn't look very professional for an on-line shop. If you go into a high street shop and buy something they never give you the purchase receipt before you give them the money...

Regards,

Mark.

Dear Colin, Mark,

your requests are very personal. We have thousands of clients all over the world and each and everyone of you has a different request. We gather all of them to then try to satisfy them according to needs. Unfortunately what is very useful for you may not be for others.

Let's say for example this: ''There is a ‘-‘ (dash) against the payment type under the column ‘Price’. If no card charges apply then this should be 0.00.'' , others prefer the dash.
As for the ''payment step'', each and every online store works in the same way (say for example Amazon or eBay) you place your order, receive your order details/receipt then you pay. It isn't a normal shop it is an online shop, if your users purchased several products, how would they know the total amount they have to pay for, without receiving the ''receipt'' first?

I hope you understand  and thank you for your feedback.

Samantha,

When I use online shops with third party payment and I pay by card I am usually taken to the payment site, i.e. PayPal, to pay and I am then transfered back to the merchants site for the confirmation of the purchase. All I am saying is that the PayPal button on X5 payment pages should be one step earlier - from the page that you check what you have ordered the next button should change to the paypal button if using the paypal option, or perhaps we could have the option to chose the step at which the customer is sent to the payment site.

Thanks,

Mark

I agree with Mark and Colin above... this simply looks unprofessional to send an e-mail to ask a customer to complete the payment process. This makes it so easy for the customer to walk away from the transaction.

I've just done my first 'live' test on my website and was extremely surprised to find there was no immediate request for payment.

The process needs to be amended.

Further to my post above the wording of the order confirmation screen could do with some enhancement... in fact the wording should really be composed by the site owner not Incomedia.

For instance it says : Your order has been correctly sent...

Sorry but the order has not been sent anywhere! Maybe the word should be 'received'?

It still also says an e-mail will be sent (with instructions to pay)... but now that the screen gives a PAYPAL button ( if people are using the beta x5cartengine),  surely this is irrelevant.

And why is the word Paypal over there on the left all on its own... what is the point of that?

Sorry to go on about this but to me it still looks unprofessional... I think each website developer should be allowed a little more freedom with this part of the design.

Some further points on your response above:

Your use of the word receipt above is incorrect, in that here in the UK a receipt is usually a term used when the money has changed hands... you wouldn't give anyone a receipt unless they had paid!

And does it matter that it is an online shop? The total order value is there in front of the customer, and it is at this point the should be encouraged to  PAY.

A few other points:

'Remember to fill in all mandatory fields' - your software forces people to fill in mandatory fields so this sentence is not required, or at least change it to say 'All fields marked with an * are mandatory'

Name: on customer details form maybe this should be changed to First Name:

In shopping cart set-up it mentions ZIP/Postal Code... on the customer details form it just says ZIP code.

Zip/Postal Code is normally the last detail in the address

I agree here too-that downfall of the shopping cart checkout is the customer getting an order number and order completion email sent BEFORE they have paid for an item. Very unprofessional. Very annoying. Cannot believe Incomedia has done nothing to change this in any of the v9 updates... I'm sure many customers all over have brought this to their attention time and time again. Makes you want to use WordPress and a shopping cart plugin so orders are done right...
