Slide show dissolve rate?

Is it possible to adjust the dissolve rate for the slideshow. The slideshow appears to function differently in the header than in the body of the webpage. Is there a way to slow the dissolve rate down?

select your picture, go to effect, then set your display time.

There is a way to adjust the dissolve rate on the image place in the header but I don't see that there is a similar adjustble dissolve rate on an image place in a page. It appears to just "flash on" upon the page. I have more in mind a slow fade on each image. Please advise.
