I need this fixing ASAP.
What do you mean by "problems" ?
Hello Derek,
What exactly happens when you try to connect to IP adresses? Do you get any specific error?
Many thanks!

1.as far as activation, your firewall blocking it, there could be no other reason for it.
2.did you try connecting to your ftp with filezilla?
3.remove it from passive mode and try it again.
4. if your version is 6.50 and still shows that message to you, I suggest join the beta club, so you will be always one step ahead.
you can find the Beta version with all its instructions in the following page:

Hi I have no intention of using filezilla. Up to the latest version everfything was OK. Now explain as to why I have problems when I didn't before please? I will join the beta claub to see if you have fixed my problem with it. If not I'll be back!
Derek
I did not ask you to switch to filezilla, I was asking you to test the ftp connection with using filezilla. sometimes there will be some changes on serverside (web host) that could cause these kind of problems.
you can create another ftp address inside your cpanel and chek to see are you able to connect to that one or no, make sure your new address points to the root of your server
i.e. .../anything/anything/Public_html
