go step2, sitemap creation, select your homepage and click on properties, at the bottom put a checkmark on filename and name it index.

click on expert tab to change your file name format.

sometimes in preview mode, it showes error for php files, but when you upload it, everything would be fine.

if there is no special reason to make your page php (like having custom php coding,etc), then leave them to html.
