Dynamic Content File  en

The dynamic content file is created by default with its own name. You can not specify a name, only a folder location. Why is this? A problem is created with this handicap. If you already have pages created with a Dynamic Content object, it uses the SAME NAME for its content layout. If the webmaster changes the content on the website it updates the other pages as well, that were copies of itself. Big problem! I tried to change it in the markup, but it seems there are multiple places that this resides in and it breaks the page.

Please tell me how to properly change the file name for the dynamic content. If this is not possible, then for please let the developer specify the file name for the dynamic control. This should be easy to make it part of the control.

You already have "folder on the Server where data is saved" why not "Filename of the file for the saved data"?

For each Dynamic Content object, a separate name is assigned to the txt file. So the content per Dynamic Object is independent. If you want to display the same content in several places in the home page you should only use the content of the corresponding txt file as html. so there are no unwanted multiple changes.
Should I misunderstand you, please more info!

Thanks for the information. However, what is happening is project related. I shouldve been more clear. If I make a COPY of a page in the Incomedia MAP creation page, it uses the SAME dynamic object reference (name). I want to be able to change the name of the dynamic file. So if Page1 has as dynamic content control and its already been rendered to a website and its using "dynObj_02.txt", i then make a copy in step 3 of WebSiteX, it uses the same name "dynObj_02.txt". How do i change that name? There is an area for the control to change the location, but NOT the name.

In the copy of the page, delete the dynamic object and insert a new dynamic object. So it should get its own name.
The copy is apparently bound by the links to the access data.
Perhaps Incomedia can say something about whether this is so desirable (I can easily imagine) or could be considered a mistake.
Maybe this should be described in the help accordingly!

Yeah i went that route, but not sure why they have a location that can be changed for the dynamic control but not the name. If the name is changable, by some interface, this would help troubleshooting and the mess when copy and paste of the page.

Incomedia can you let the developer specify a filename instead the a canned name that comes with the control usage? Again, the file path is there, why not the name too?

Hi Brian,

as of now, I can confirm that the issue you presented, is definitely there, but cannot really be considered an issue, rather an improvement that can be suggested.

For this reason, I turned this topic into an IDEA, so that it is more distinguishable by the Staff when discussing future implementations of the software.

As always, there is no certainty as of if and when an IDEA will get implemented, but nonetheless I thank you for reporting this here

Thank you

Stefano
