Restore backup file in X5 Pro  en

Autore: Peter M.

It appears my project folder has  been deleted (I think this occurred when I was trying to create a new project.  As I was not satisfied with the results I chose to delete it and it appears to have deleted the project I wanted to keep too).

Unfortunately the backup folder in X5 Pro turned out to be empty although I had clicked on backup a number of times in recent months.  The only backup files I have are for the former X5 Evolution folder.

Please advise if these can be used to restore the project in X5 Pro.  I know these are 9 months old but I don't think I have any other choice.

Many thanks

Normally, projects from older or lower versions (Evo or Go) of WebSiteX5 Pro should load.

Many thanks for the prompt reply.

I'm afraid I couldn't follow the help page instructions.  I found the backup file and renamed it as suggested, but wasn't sure where to go from there.

This is the problem I am running into.  The backups are IWPRJ2 files but X5 will only accept IWZIP files at that point.

IWPRJ2 => Projekt file

IWZIP => Correct backup file

Perhaps other users can offer advice on how to salvage the situation if the IWZIP is missing.

Incomedia staff will be back online on Monday.

Hello Peter,
to clarify, what files do you currently have at your disposal?
Do you only have an .iwprj2 file, or the whole project folder is available?
Thank you for the details.

I have the whole project folder for X5 Evolution with a folder called Backup.  And there are saved and uploaded copies of the LWPRJ2 files.

The project in X5 pro has the file structure but the folders are empty.  It does have a number of temp files though.  Strange that the backup folder is empty because I know I have a number of backups since the last X5 Evolution one in January 2026.

Thanks for your help.

Hello Peter,
could you please provide me both with the Pro and Evo folders, so that I can check the files available in both and see what options are available to restore the project?
You can archive them as .zip or .rar files, then upload the files with SwissTransfer, TransferNow or similar services, and provide a download link to support @ incomedia.eu (without the spaces).
Thank you.

Hello Peter,
as you suspected, it was not possible to use the file in the WebSite X5 Pro folder, as the Hartley-Kent folder was empty.
I converted the Evo project into Pro, you can download the IWZIP file from the link I sent you by e-mail.
Make sure to generate another IWZIP to keep as backup after you have restored the project to its updated state.

I confirm this has worked.  Very many thanks for all your help on this.

However I still think there are issues with the backing up of the project.  I created a named backup as soon as it opened and although the program said the backup was successful, it is not to be found in the backup folder.  Same issue with automatic backups, there are some files in the backup folder but none are IWZIP.

Hello Peter,
to create an IWZIP you should use the function "Export the project" found in Step 5.
Could you please check if a file is generated at the path you specify when using it?
I would suggest creating a folder on your computer for this purpose to save all IWZIP files there.

Thanks for the advice.  I tried that and successfully created an iwzip file in a custom folder.

Once again, thank you for all your help. Much appreciated.
