Member login features (Evolution version)  en

I am a relatively new user of Website X5 Evolution. I find the software very sophisticated and versatile.

Regarding member registration and login I understand that members cannot register on their on and than I have to create a login for each member.

(1) To create a login for each member apparently I need to start Website X5 and update Access Management section in settings/advanced by adding specific member as user (I am able to group members). My first question is: Is there a way to add each member login from the Admin section of the live website?

(2) Once a member logs in he reaches an area (webpage or a set of webpages) that is common to all members, sort of a members' lounge. That is useful as I can provide access to documents and images that are accessible to all members (and not to general public that does have a login). Also, I can allow members to post comments that all members are able to see.

My second question is: Is it possible to provide each member his/her own member specific area? It is the area where member specific information is stored, such as profile, documents that they are asked to provide and access is provided to documents that are member specific. And member has access to record of progress of any interaction that member has with webmaster. And, member is able to update profile information, etc.

Also, how is the webmaster able to view member information and interact with a member in a way so that a record of interactions and progress is kept in that member's area?

Thank you for the opportunity to explore these questions.

Hello S C P

X5 is not a member system and it is not a document system.

You can make a locked page for each of your members. And you can have links on the pages that directs to specific documents. But you cannot have specific users access to documents, as all ( also anonymous ) will have access to those documents ( if they know or can guess a name ).

And members cannot upload or control uploaded material, unless you have a "program" for that.

You could use the ADMIDIO  system as an integrated part of your website.

This system is a member-system. You can have members to self register, and you can create roles to a member.

This role can control what the member are allowed to in the system. Each member can have its own role or you can group members by assingning them to a role. A member can have more roles.

You can allow users to upload  to folders. ( you can set user-access to folders )

You can create download-folders where you can set which role(s) are allowed to download from the folder. And the files are protected.

The system has an "internal" message board and even a chat.

You can see an example of how I use the system here : http://www.energifremtiden.dk/c4d/objekte.html

You can see some more of the ADMIDIO system here : https://www.admidio.org/ they also have a live-demo where you can log in as member or as admin.

Hope this inspires you to a solution.

Kind regards

And - before someone thinks this is an advertisement - the system is completely free, it is open source and it is supported and you can have support on their forum.

Thank you for your information. I appreciate it.

The open source software that you quoted, I believe, is an alternative to Website X5 Professional. The website on which we are communicating here (websitex5.com) is written using the Professional version. I would be inclined to invest in Professional version upgrade rather than any free open source software.

I was actually interested in information on to what extent the Evolution version can be used to set up members facility online and communicate with members outside of public view. I am now beginning to think that Evolution version can only allow a common members area that is accessible to all members and, of course, member registration needs to be entered by webmaster.

I would be interesed to know whether Evolution version allows a Log Out feature, or member simply stays logged in until cookies are cleared on his computer.

I appreciate an opportunity to explore these questions.

Hello S C P

First - ADMIDIO is not an alternative to X5. With X5 you can build websites. ADMIDIO is not able to build websites.

ADMIDIO can manage members and documents - X5 is not able to do this in a proper way.

Even the PRO version is not able to do a proper management for members.

Both the X5 evolution and the pro version offers the ability to place a logout object on a page, so that users can log out.

I use X5 to build websites and I use other systems intefrated in my websites, simply by integrating them by use of iframes.

It is rather simple. This way you can have the best from two worlds.

You could try to use the evolution or pro version for membership and documents, and then you could consider if ADMIDIO would be a solution.

Kind regards
