Using standard fonts in Evolution V15
Autor: S C P.I am a relatively new user of Website X5 Evolution. I find the software very sophisticated and versatile. Although I have renewed currently I am working with X5 Evolution 15 and recently upgraded from v13.
In using text object the drop down menu for fonts was quite extensive in v13 and I used two fonts - Vivaldi and Brush Script MT (these are standard fonts also in all Microsoft Office products also, in fact, the v13 font and Microsoft Office fonts matched quite well). However v15 choices for fonts are not as extensive and both of these are not included in the drop down menu.
I looked at the Other Fonts alternative in drop down menu and was let to some odd list of Google fonts that overwhelm the user with a wide variety of nonstandard fonts (other than being nonstandard they also carry the risk of not working in the future versions of X5).
My question is: Is there a way to recover these fonts - Vivaldi and Brush Script MT - as well as other standard fonts that were available in v13 (and are available in Microsoft Office) and appear to be deleted in v15?
Thank you for the opportunity to explore these questions.
The fonts you previously used were not websafe, ie not supported by all browsers on all platforms invariably the user would have seen times (except in header & footer where text was displayed as an image) unless the same fonts were also present on their device.
The Google Fonts are the safest option and are compatible with all platforms. They are also fast and reliable and free.

Thank for your reply. I appreciate it.
I am thinking you are referring to smartphones and Google's android system. And, your answer may be appicable to that constituency. I know Google has a large following.
However, serious websites are evaluated on the basis of how they perform on laptops and desktops. And, for these the standard fonts (as popularized by Microsoft Office) work well, no need to bother with Google fonts.
I hope Incomedia is not committed to websites for smartphones only without any consideration for laptops and desktops.
The fonts that I am referring to - Vivaldi and Brush Script MT - when used on a web page they appear as their intended style on laptops and desktops and are converted to ordinary fonts on smartphone that I use, SONY Xperia, and not to some strange images. So there is no real problem with these fonts.
Overall, I am extremly happy with all the capabilities that Website X5 provides. They make it so easy to build a very impressive website.
Again, thank you.

If you are having difficulties selecting your "standard" fonts in v15-v17 you can bypass the safe webfonts limitation by installing your preferred fonts as webfonts.
Go to your windows/fonts directory, select your fonts and copy them out to a suitable directory. Now go to any font selection panel and install your fonts as webfonts from that directory, although I am not sure of the legality of this step (I do not know if the fonts are freeware or copyright).

Thank for your reply. I appreciate it.
(1) V13 had all those fonts, including Vivaldi and Brush Script MT. V15 has much smaller selection of fonts. So I would be interested to know how did Incomedia get these fonts for V13.
(2) Fonts are available on the internet, free download or for purchase (around $35/font), e.g. http://sharefonts.net or myfonts.com/fonts/itc/vivaldi/. I found Vivaldi font (.TTF) and linked to website. So I am okay for Vivaidi and Brush Script MT.
(3) I do not believe Microsoft owns these fonts, they simply popularize. It would be interesting to find out.
Happy holidays. Thank you for the opportunity to explore these questions.
SCP, in v13 and earlier WX5 just allowed you to use any font on your system, however, many fonts on most peoples Windows PC's were not available on Apple PC's, iphones or Android, so it became necessary to limit the selection to websafe fonts that would display on any device. With the advent of google fonts the choices became much broader.
My limited experience with webfonts is that they work, but unless all appropriate formats are embedded they do not work for everyone.
Enjoy!!
