X5 Pro published html filesizes  en

I am wanting to compare the published .html filesize of X5 Pro generated pages with that of other authoring tools.

For my website, abthermal.com, each product landing page usually contains 3 objects: some text, a small image, pdf viewer link.  The nomimal published html filesize is 250K.  Some are a little smaller - 5 to 10K smaller, and some a little bigger - 5 to 10K bigger.

I consider that very big....  maybe so big that it negatively effects my page rank speed??

My previous authoring tool (blue voda), (a non-responsive html GUI html editor) the published html pages with the same content were considerably smaller - nominal about 8 to 20K.

So about 10 to 20 times smaller......

I am trying other authoring tools out to see what the result is for the same page content.  For example Mobirise the same page is only 3.8 K!! And mobirise seems to do a good job of responsive content display.

Has anyone else done similar testing with other software?

Does anyone know why X5 html pages would be so large for the same content?  Am I doing something wrong with X5? I have no fancy backgrounds, videos, special effects.  I will admit X5 has much better tools for control of objects than some other software - but it seems at the expense of a lot of overhead which puts the page load time for my site much higher than the similar content of my competitors......  and google would punish my ranking for that.

Any thoughts or comments?

Adrian

Hello. Yes, page size affects the speed of your site. I looked at the first available page -https://abthermal.com/emi-rfi-aramid-braided-sleeve-with-conductivity-wire-cable-protection-shield.html

It seems that the largest file is a PDF-viewer script.

"Has anyone else done similar testing with other software?" - Yes, I work with Joomla. The more content per page, the larger the page size.

"Does anyone know why X5 html pages would be so large for the same content?" - The problem is not the size of HTML. The problem is in the PDF viewer script. Also do not forget that there is still the PDF file itself.

"Am I doing something wrong with X5?" - no.

"I have no fancy backgrounds, videos, special effects." - yes, but you have a PDF viewer.

You have not very bad results. Especially on the desktop.

To optimize the site, you can use PageSpeed Module. But not all hosting provide it. frown

Thank you for your comments.

I appreciate your time.

I wonder if other viewers that I could enter as a html object might be smaller?

Your comment about "the largest file is a PDF-viewer script" is of interest.

So I found other js viewer code, (https://pdfobject.com/) seems very compact.

I'm going to try it out and see if I can save some size.

I am using a pdf generator from BCL technologies to generate the pdf file from the original MS word document - , but I suspect it may be the actual size of the pdf file and not as much X5 code vs other code??

"I wonder if other viewers that I could enter as a html object might be smaller?" - I did not try to search. If you refuse to PDF and just add text, images to the page, then this will not require additional scripts. But this may require you a lot of time to create content. I recommend trying on 2-3 pages and compare the results. It will also allow you to understand how much time is needed.

"but I suspect it may be the actual size of the pdf file and not as much X5 code vs other code??" - I did not try to compare.

Well, interesting; I stripped out the pdf viewer, the size of the landing page didn't change. I added a new page to the site, with only a text object and the words "test page", and its 251K in size.  Thats a lot of overhead!

The picture is typically a maximum of 5k.

I have created a duplicate test site in another authoring tool this weekend (mac based), same number of menu items, and the landing page size is 14K without the picture and with a default menu system that is quite nice and has more options than x5 (and with live breadcrumbs!). And its half the cost of x5 even with several of its marketplace objects that are needed to really make the resulting pages full featured.

The landing page is 61 lines of code in total, as opposed to 3900 in X5.  I'm still analyzing the code to see what kind of resource calls are being made vs x5.

14K vs 250K.....

I'm sorry to say this software may be my new authoring tool...... more testing before I switch.

There are indeed.... X5 was the best when I last tried out a bunch.... but so many things not improved for a long time now.  This other app also lets you choose what objects are displayed for which display ports... not just hiding for mobile screens.  Great feature. I wish x5 would say what is being worked on for near future release....
