Uploading new Material to new Server  en

Hi to all

I am trying to upload a new page as part of my website. Namely images of our latest Gr eat Grandson Thomas John Fahey. The website is fully operational at http://vayro.one-name.net/  but an error message is appearing every time I try to upload new material.

I am using the same software that worked mid 2021 Website x5 Evolution 11 and not the latest current version of the software and have made no changes to the original upload settings

It keeps coming up with the message "Unable to connect to server, Temporary error, please try later"

I think the problem is that the Guild of One Name Studies who hosts the site has recently changed its storage web server for all the private websites of its members. According to the Guild Web-team the new server uses more advanced protection protocol but in particular they suggest that the FTP capability that is required is called "2-Factor Authentication", (they lost me at this point) and because my software application is 8 years old, will not have the facility for this advanced File Transfer Security Protocol build in.

I think at one point there was a Version 12 of Website X5, and the question is would it allow new uploads? and is it still available?

Before I invest in the latest product costing £67 I need to know if my current database for the website will upload to the programme, and more importantly allow more additional material. The reason I raise this point is that I upgraded from V8 to V11 and the original database would not upload and one of the X5 team had to manipulate the data, and I had to upload all the images again.

Otherwise it is a complete change of Software and rebuild, which I would like to avoid if at all possible.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated from the team or someone who is using this software and had similar problems.

Many thanks in anticipation

John, please check this video, is this similar to the requirements of your host? As shown in the video at the end, is it possible to bypass two factor for ftp?

I would try to access your hosting with filezilla or similar to ensure that it is actually accessible, and of course you can export your website to a folder and then upload all of that to the host if you need to.

V11 is very old and the latest version (v2021.5.?) can certainly access hosting accounts using a variety of methods, but I have never had the need so cannot say that it will be the solution to your problem. Others may be more knowledgeable. Good luck.

The latest version does however come with free hosting for the first 12 months after which there is a 50% reduction in cost if renewed with ongoing update protection for WX5

Not really sure if this video is relevant to the problem, but my own technical knowledge is not that strong. At the age of 80 I beginning to consider not Updating the site at all, but we will see what other comments come through.

Thanks for your help, and plese do check it out with filezilla, and let me know

John, you need to try FileZilla, I don't have an account with your host.

(if you feel overwhelmed I am sure your host will provide login/upload settings/proceedures as soon as you tell them you are using filezilla, when that works the settings/proceedure may be directly transferrable to WX5)
