Has Incomedia Website X5 Evolution V11 been abandoned completely
Autor: John R.As someone who has used Website X5 to create a family website at http://vayro.one-name.net/ for many years the software now has a message suggesting there is no longer any support from Incomedia and also refuses to upload any new material I have created. (Since April 2022) This is disappointing because I had to change from version 8 to 11 and have an expert convert all the data. I see that the latest X5 software costs over £150 with obviously greatrer potential, but I am rather hesitant to upgrade my software. Feeling abandoned by Incomedia I can understand that protocol and web usage have moved on from my outdated software, but wondered if the support could be restored by an add on or update, particularly restoring the potential to prepare new material and particularly upload it to the host webserver?
At a great cost to upgrade the software, and then hope someone can convert my present file to a new format acceptable to the new software, with no absolkute guarantee that everything will transfer accurately when uploading from that new software, this is my predicament
Is anyone else on the forum having the same problem?. I would welcome some advice from individuals and or Incomedia Support Team
A worried individual who works on the principal of if it works why be forced to change it?
John
If you can't publish on the Web, it's because you're going to have problems yourself....
The software has nothing to do with it.
There are users who still publish to the Web with older versions.
And even with an older version you can still today, create new Web sites.
Obviously, if you have to use features that require PHP , and your Host requires you, to have up-to-date PHP (7.x, 8.x) the older versions are NOT compatible with that, but otherwise there are NO problems.
For conversion from 11 to the current version, there is no additional cost... you have to pay for the software , that yes... but the current version imports from version 11.
Obviously you will have to redo the Template, and work on the Header and Footer, and certainly on the MENU because a lot has changed over the years.
There are no "patches" to adapt your version 11.
You can only buy the new one or keep the old one see for yourself....
If you want a "responsive" site , that works with the new versions of PHP, you MUST buy the new version.
If you have errors, post screenshots here with the errors...
Incomedia, has not been giving support on your version for a few years now... but the users and moderators, are here specifically to help you out...
How to convert a Website created with an old WebSite X5 versio, see
>> https://guide.websitex5.com/en/support/solutions/articles/44002171387-so-konvertieren-sie-ein-projekt-aus-einer-alten-version-von-website-x5
If the conversion should not work, the website could also be recreated with a new modern template.
First create the sitemap, then insert the objects into the grid on the individual pages and fill them with the texts copied from the old website (possibly format them differently). Save the images on the hard disk if they are not already there and integrate them into the image objects from there.
I did this 4 years ago for my brother's website which was previously made with another web editor. For 50 pages it takes about 1-2 days.
But maybe the conversion will work with the new version of WebSite X5, so that only small adjustments have to be made.
Hi John,
I confirm, as Claudio already explained, that the use of an outdated and unsupported version doesn't prevent you from keep using the software and updating your website. The cause for the issue you are experiencing is therefore to be found somewhere else, and more information about what is happening would surely help better identifying it.
However, please consider that, because we don't support version 11 anymore, I cannot directly help you with this issue, but you can keep this message set as public so to allow other users and moderators helping you.
Thanks! Kind regards.

Firstly my thanks to Claudio, Daniel and Elisa for your replies.
I am aware that I can still prepare new websites with the older version 11 and have been adding pages for the last few months, mainly of images of greatgrandchildren. The problem is that the software refuses to upload them to the present website host/server.
It appears that though these new pages show when the viewer selects them, I am not sure if the SAVE option has worked as it has always done in the past.
I have also tried using FileZilla to upload but still unsuccessfully.
Advice from the webmaster of the Guild of One Name Studies who are the owners of the host server suggest that perhaps my Avast Antivirus software may be preventing the data getting out, or the Windows Firewall itself. But these were there and operating at earlier stages of uploading.
Elisa - We have communicated before (latest Dec 2021) and problems have been succaIly resolved but I was not aware that Incomedia's support for V11 has not been available for somdave been upgraded. It is called progress.
If I could only get the uploading sorted without buying new software it would be enough:
It is a similar situation with versions of Windows. I still use Windows version 7, happily and successfully, but now this is unsupported and I am being "persuaded" to change to version 10 or beyond. This is an enforced situatioin beyond my control. Not unlike the Incomedia situation.
I am adding a jpg produced though I doubt it will be of any use.
Thanks again
John
