I am trying to avoid showing my actual email address on my website. On my contact page for www.sixsigma-ltd.com I have entered some narrative - "click here to email malcolm" - then used the link to email address box and entered my actual email address. Then clicked protect the email address and uploaded this page to my website. When I click the narative on my website this does not work - i.e. my email address is not opened up. Help please.

Hello Malcolm,

Your email link works fine for me in all browsers that I tested with (Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer)

Two points to bear in mind:

1. The email address obfuscation utilises JavaScript, so check JavaScript settings.  Also, check any browser add-ons/pop-up blockers which might be interfering with normal operation of the JavaScript code.

2. If the end user does not have a correctly configured email client installed on their own computer then email links such as this will not work.  This, however, is not a defect of WebSite X5.

It's good practice to combine email address links with an alternative short contact form, so the web visitor can choose whichever they prefer to use.

Kind regards,

Paul

JJ / Paul. Many thanks for the swift response.

I have just tried logging on to my website and clicking on the email address with a mobile 'phone and it works perfectly.

So...as you say it is nothing to do with WebSite X5. Have recently upgraded to Windows 10 so it must be something in the settings for Internet Explorer, Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

Will now try to figure out what has happened. Many thanks for your help. Malcolm

Further to your recent update, Malcolm, (and the fact that the link doesn't work for you in three separate browsers) the solution will almost certainly be that you need to set a default email client in Windows 10 to handle emails (as opposed to a web-based browser client like Gmail or Yahoo).

Something along the lines of the following:

Best wishes...

@ Incomedia: please see also the following: https://helpcenter.websitex5.com/post/131174  -  the link opens the mail client correctly for me in Windows 10.  I suspect the issue is localised and Malcolm needs to set a default mail client in Windows 10 (Settings > System > Default apps)

Microsoft have been back to me with the solution to the problem. It was a file association - 'MAILTO' was linked to Google whereas it should have been linked to my email.

To fix: Control Panel>Programs>Default programs>Associate a file type or protocol with a specific program>Change program. Scroll down to MAILTO. Select Outlook (desktop) - which is the email system I use.

That's it - fixed - j-i-c anyone else has the problem.
