Restored Templates Not Visible in Project Preview
Author: Barry R.I had to reinstall Windows 7 and X5 Pro 11 (see below). I keep my X5 projects in my Dropbox folder and was able to restore them easily. My templates, however, apparently disappeared. I reimported them from backup files and reassigned the templates to existing projects. However...
When I try to preview a project, it appears to have no template. You can see the text and images only. I tried clearing the "Preview" folder but get the same behavior.
If I upload a project to my web server, however, the template is visible. It appears to be the same template as before but some customizations are missing. It's possible that they were added after the last backup so it's not a disaster, but not being able to preview a site is problematic.
It seems to me that users should have the same control over templates that they have over projects. In other words, it should be possible to specify a storage location for templates on Dropbox or some other "cloud" shared storage. It should also be possible to view and modify project/template mappings without having to open each project separately.
Why did I reinstall Windows? I got fed up after months of trying unsuccessfully to fix permission problems. Some folders became write-locked for reasons unknown and I couldn't unlock them, even as an administrator. Apparently, the data structures that store the folder permissions got corrupted and couldn't be repaired.

The problem is apparently related to Firefox. Preview works correctly in Internet Explorer. I don't have any other browsers installed but will try some.
Glad it works Barry.
Check also the preference setting in x5 startup and the ctrl-key with preview. They help in some cases....

The problem is not related to any browser. The built-in previewer simply does not work. Ctrl-Preview appears to remove formatting but otherwise doesn't work.
I created a new project with a new custom template and get the same result. I can preview the site in any browser but not in the built-in previewer.
I've been assuming that all the required parts of a project are in:
1. the project folder (in my case C:\Users\user\Dropbox)
2. C:\Users\user\Documents\Incomedia\WebSite X5 v11 - Professional
3. C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Incomedia\WebSite X5 v11 - Professional
And I've been assuming that the non-project-specific values in the registry and contents of the installation folder are not modified by using the application:
C:\Program Files (x86)\WebSite X5 v11 - Professional
Is this correct? If there are other data locations, I may not have restored them from backups.
BTW, I'm running 11.0.2.14 with no previous versions installed. I'll try a reinstallation.
Hello Barry,
The custom templates are stored in:
C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Incomedia\WebSite X5 v11 - Professional\Templates
Check if you added the content of this folder.
The templates can be exported from the program as IWTPL files so they can be saved on an external device. Like you export the project as IWZIP the templates can be exported too so in case you reinstall it you can simply import them back.
Many thanks!
