I was glad to hear that Incomedia has finally created a Responsive web platform.  If I were to purchase the new Version 12, can I export my project to the newer version 12 without alot of time and work?

Hello Joe,

Any work required would certainly not be major, although there are some minor issues to be aware of depending on what WebSite X5 features you have used in your existing project and what version was used to create your existing project.

This v12 project conversion guide explains everything in greater detail:

Kind regards,

Paul

1)  My site created with v11 is pretty basic, but very functional for what it needs to perform, but even if I would loose some things, I could still recreate them as if it was a new update page?  That's what you're referring to as a minor inconvienence?

I need the responsive website, and was actually considering using a totally different platform to rebuild the website, this was until Incomedia came out with a version to create a responsive site.  I have a fairly good understanding of v11,

2) So I should be OK with version 12 and be able to create my responsive site which will be mobile friendly?

3) With v11 that I have on the computer, will v11 be overwritten or lost if I purchase v12 now at the promotional price?

I'm waiting to read your comments to these questions, which will likely decide on going with v12, just a little worried about having problems with something so new.

I'm just a regular user like yourself, Joe...  I don't work for Incomedia.  I'm understandably wary of issuing cast-iron guarantees on anything as I'm not connected with the company.

What I can offer is my own experience thus far.  My v11 sites were imported into v12 incredibly smoothly.  On one of them I had to redo the menu button border colour as it had changed to white for some reason, but of course it only took two minutes to fix that.  On another the fields in an email form lost their neatly aligned format and I'm still looking at that and trying to work out why it happened.  But neither event was serious and they were hardly deal-breakers for me.

It's astonishing given the new responsive functionality that existing projects can be converted so easily and with few issues.  Just like Incomedia state in the project conversion guide, you should check every converted project for functionality and validate all feaures after conversion.

Your site will be mobile-friendly within minutes if you enable the reponsive feature.  There is very little work to be done to make this happen...  a bit more if you wish to customise exactly how the layout will appear.  It is no more extra work then customising the desktop template.

Your copy of version 11 will not be lost as the license is perpetual, and version 12 installs independently of v11 in its own directory.  There is nothing to stop you from keeping v11 on your own machine and indeed using it even after you have installed v12.

I encourage you to open a 'Private' post directly to Incomedia if you still have concerns.  I have found them extremely polite and easy to deal with, and I am sure they will promptly answer any further pre-sale queries you might have.  They will also be able to advise you as to your money-back options if for any reason you are unhappy with the new software should you decide to buy it.

Best wishes!

Hi

you can import v11 projects into v12, and like Paul said there may be a few minor adjustments you may need to make, one of them is the header and footer, once the responsive side kicks in on mobile devices the header and footer content disappears now x5 say its to focus on the main content but a lot of users are unhappy about that, so what I would suggest is to create a header image with the details you want on it.
