Cannot install X5 Professional 12 in Windows 10  en

Author: Arnold Page

I have a clean installation of 32-bit Windows 10. There are no previous installations of any software other than Microsoft's Windows 10 software.

I have tried to install Website X5 Professional v. 12.0.0.12 and version 12.0.1.15, using "As Administrator". The same problem occurs with both. Both versions first install Visual C++ 2010 x86 redistributable and Visual C++ 2012 redistributable x 86, which I believe is correct. But Setup then says 'Preparing to install' and produces an error message:

'The following applications are using files that need to be updated by Setup.  It is recommended that you allow Setup to close these applications...' The file listed is 'Incomedia WebSite X5 Professional.'

I have a choice of 'Automatically close the applications' or 'Do not close the applications'. Whichever I do I receive either immediately or later another error message, 'An error occurred while trying to replace the existing file. DeleteFile failed: code 5. Access is denied.'

It is not possible to proceed any further with the installation. Can you help?

Arnold,

See if v12 is installed in your software list, if so, remove it first from there.

Then download latest from here: https://answers.websitex5.com/profile/downloads

Install this one with the user loged in that will use the program.

Hope this works, best is to the the install after a reboot, to make sure there are no "open files" anymore

I checked as you advised, and no versions of the software or any other software were installed, and I was using v. 12.0.1.15 which is the latest version. I had also tried to install it yesterday logged in both as myself and "as Administrator". (In any case I am the Administrator.) Nothing worked.

However I was running the installation program from a USB memory stick. (I had downloaded the program from another computer which wasn't networked with my Windows 10 one.) This morning I first copied it from the memory stick to the hard drive, and it installed from that file without a problem!

The explanation could probably be found by looking for the error message in the Setup software code ('The following applications are using files that need to be updated by Setup') and seeing what triggers that message.

Therefore to install the software it appears that in some cases at least the file has to be on the main computer hard drive and not on a USB secondary drive.
