May not be V12 causing problems  en

Hi,

I and many others have been having problems with X12 pro since the last update, however for the last 2 days I have been doing some investigations and have come to the conclusion it may not be X12 that is the problem. I have found at least on my machine that the .com surrogate in windows 10 is not working properly it now handles thumbnails and is not closing them causing problems when trying to update or remove properties or personal information in photos. I don’t know if this could be causing problems with V12 X5 pro or not as I do not have any expertize in this area, but it may be worth looking into. I hope this helps in some way

Hello David,

You are absolutely right and thank you for making this very useful point.

WebSite X5 is built on the Microsoft.NET framework and also utilises Visual C++ run-time components.  Both of these are tightly integrated with the user's operating system, and also share duties with any other software installed on the user's system which requires them.  As such they are at risk during the course of third-party software installation/uninstallation routines, Windows updates (or lack of), over-zealous uninstallers and registry cleaners, etc.

This is why Claudio, Stefano and others will often advise checking and repairing these components as a primary measure during troubleshooting.

It's often the case that certain error messages within WebSite X5 point to underlying issues within the Windows installation overall.  This has been especially noticeable recently where Windows 10 upgrades have not gone smoothly, albeit whilst the user remains unaware.  At the first sign of trouble WebSite X5 gets the blame...  however, the software cannot possibly function correctly without integrity in the .NET framework and Visual C++ run-time libraries.

So once again thank you for highlighting this matter, and especially for the URL which you posted.  I hope anyone else experiencing difficulty will also take the time to run a system file check in the same way that you did.

Hi, I would glady try this fix, but the link to answer Microsoft seems not to be working.

Is it sfc /scannow at elevated command prompt?

Hi,

I still have some problems with X5 V12. Until they fix it I have taken some steps to help the program keep running such as not running any other programs while running V12 including photo editors, if you need to photo edit some of you pictures save your website and close X5, edit your photos then open X5 again. Also turn off as many background tasks as possible like One drive and printer status monitors, screen savers etc. I also run Norton 360 and have added V12 to its list user-specified programs so when X5 is running Norton will not run background tasks while the program is running, I’m sure other security programs will have similar features. Also don’t try and run X5 for hours on end, save your work at regular intervals and do a system reboot to clean out memory and caches I do this about every hour. I know this is not a fix and it is frustrating at times but it keeps the program ticking over and allows you to at least get some work done. I hope it helps you all.
