Evolution 12 freezes  en

I just installed Website x5 Evolution 12 on my PC, CPU six cores, Windows 10, 10 GB RAM, plenty of HD space.

2 major problems so far when I started my first project:

- for text, on any page, the font freezes on Tahoma 10 which is rather small and I cannot increase the size to, say, Tahoma 18 for a Home Page.

- The app is unstable and stops responding quite often. I have to remember saving the project any time I make a change.

Anybody has an idea of what is happening? Thanks.

Hello Jean pierre,

try disable the antivirus and start the program as administrator,

Then verify the fonts that you installed in the sistem, try to reduce these or restore the default Windows fonts.

Let me know.

Thanks for the answer.

I tried to disable the anti virus and I opened the program as administrator. It seemed that it had improved and I worked several hours on a new project, up to the moment it stopped responding, and it seems I lost all my data. No fun!

However the font was still erratic at times, going to size 8 when I requested 16 or 18. No way to increase the size. I only use Arial, after having tried Tahoma from the program.

Now before dumping the program,  I installed it on my laptop Intel i-5 duo core, 8 Gb RAM,... and it worked 1 hour without crashing. Will go ahead and try to redo my project. However the screen is much smaller than my desktop (dual monitor).

If you have any other idea, it is more than welcome. Thanks.

Correction. I just had an incident with the laptop. Same "stopped responding"

So, it's not related to the desktop CPU, memory, etc...

It happened when I was editing the Home Page, trying to add some text, when I changed the default Tahoma 10 to Arial 16.

It seems it is really related to this font problem. This is as far as I know.

Hello Jean pierre,

do you have manyfonts installed in your system?

Try reduce it or restore the standard fonts of Windows.

Let me know.

Hi Riccardo,

Thanks for your answer.

No, I don't have more fonts than the standard Windows 10, with Microsoft office 2010.

After hours of trials and errors, I came to the conclusion that my problems do not originate from a compatibility issue, because I work with a desktop and a laptop, both with Windows 10, Microsoft Office, but different CPUs and configs.

I will explain how I improved the stability of Website x5 Evolution 12, because it may help other users.

First of all, I went very thoroughly through the Settings process in the page "Template Style" and I chose the font I want (Arial 12) in the Text Style, Page Menu settings...

It improved stability, but that was not enough.

Then I saw that, each time I change something, or type some text, I have to click the green button "OK" and immediately after, click the button "Save". It helped increase stability.

Now, as a result, I can work 1 hour or more without a crash. And if it happens, I don't lose all data.

This being said, there are still some minor glitches which can make the process somewhat frustrating. For example, when I want to type new text in a page, my default font should be Arial 12 (my default font), but it always go down to a size of 8. I have to choose 12, 2 or 3 times before it is registerd by the system.

Overall, I think Website X5 Evolution 12 could be a very good Web Editor, with many nice functionalities, if these stability issues were solved. The developers should give it a thought.

Thanks

Jean Pierre, this sounds suspiciously like a hard disk issue, have you run chkdsk c: /r from an adminstrator prompt? I have also seen this issue when I had a dubious external USB hd connected.

Good luck

Thanks for your post.

The issue is unlikely to come from HD because I have the same issue with 2 different computers, one on SSD and the other on HD, and anyway both are properly maintained, no fragmentation, etc...

Undertaking the steps I mentionned has somewhat stabilzed the system, not entirely though. There is still something, somewhere. I wish I knew what.

Well, after a few hours working with the App and so many crashes, I think I know better what may trigger the issue.

Actually the crash happens when I change anything, it can be only a text word, and I go to Preview before undertaking two steps:

1. click on OK button

2. click on Save

If I perform these two steps in this order, I don't have crashes.
