What steps do I need to take to convert a site created in V8 to work with newer versions (V12).

The site has many pages (approximately 300).

Any guidance will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the replies but when I import from v8 to v9 (I currently own 8,9,10), most the pages have formatting issues.

Since the site has over 300 pages it would take an incredible amount of time to clean up all of the formatting issues.

So I have continued to use v8 to create new pages when needed.

Is there any way (or any type of service available) that would allow me to get it imported to the newer version so that it was ready to upload and use straight away?

Or is there any way to keep all of the originally created pages and use a newer version of X5 for all future pages?

Hello Art,

Art Ferreira

No, in both cases.

Version 9 was a major upgrade and departure from v8 and previous versions.  There is no quick fix solution to formatting issues.  Even those users who kindly offer conversion services may have to make adjustments manually.

Kind regards,

Paul

Thanks Paul.

I guess I will have to keep using v8 since this is my company website, with hundreds of pages and it would be too problematic to make all of the necessary adjustments to all of the pages.

If you know of any users who offer conversion services (and would be willing to undertake a project of this size) I would be happy to pay for such a service.

In addition to JJ's helpful suggestion there is also our moderator, Andre, who still lists a conversion service on his website:

http://andreweb.nl/x5_test/upload-info.php

I cannot speak for either of the gentlemen concerned, but you can make contact through those links and discuss suitability and payment terms, etc.

Best wishes...

I had formatting issues when I had to convert my site. It's such a major upgrade from v8 to v9 that there is no way to avoid this. I spent weeks adjusting the formatting after that but my updates from then on have been smooth.

300 pages? Even if they are product pages, who would spend time going through them all? That may sound harsh but the reality is that if there are more then 6 - 7  pages, only the most determined viewer will even begin to explore them. It will be worth the upgrade but the trouble is that if someone does this for you, they would have to spend time adjusting the formatting and it would get very expensive. Even then, you might not like what they did to it!

You could still maintain the pages with v8 but use v12 (or newer) to make a new home page and 10 - 12 other pages that have LINKS on each to your older site. This would mean maintaining two sites and paying for two lots of hosting (as well as needing another domain, which would be similar to the first but with some element changed so it was seperate), but at least it would save you time and work. You could then gradually start adding pages to your new site as you recreated them in the newer version.

Hi we still offer a free conversion service for v8 templates for all project sizes, this will always remain a free service, just email your project to info at x5tuts dot com, depending on the size it may take us a little while to make the adjustments.

Hi All,

Thanks for the comments and I will reach out to the contacts listed to see if a conversion is feasible.

Wayne B., the reason for all of the pages is that each client receives a custom page for their company/organization.

It would be a requirement to have all of them formatted properly as my clients access these pages daily to conduct their business with my company.

Jamie, when you say you offer a conversion service would this service include making sure that the formatting on all pages was correct and the pages would display properly?

As I mentioned earlier, I would be happy to pay for this service and it would not need to be completed in any set time period.

I can keep using v8 until a conversion were ready to be loaded into a newer version (preferably the latest version available).

hi we try to keep the converted project as close to the original as possible, there may be a few minor adjustments you will need to make but everything else should be fine.

Hi Jamie,

What exactly would I need to send you for a conversion?

Would it be the contents of the Website Export V8 directory or would it be the contents of the Website Files V8 directory?
