Evolution 13 Start up screen opens then stop  en

Operating system is an HP Laptop.  Windows 10 (64bit)

Uploaded WebsiteX5 Evolution 13 and then opened to load to Laptop.  Everything went fine.  The Icon appeared on Desktop.  The Software loaded to C:Progamfile/websitex5.  The websitex5.exe file is located in this folder and works -- sort of.  When executed the START up screen in 13 opens and then a smaller window opens on top of it and says, "websitex5 Evolution 13 has stopped working"  then after a few second it closes.  There is no error message from 13 the message appears to be from Windows 10, saying Evolution 13 has to close and Windows would look for a solution but must close Evolution 13.

WebsiteX5 Evolution 12 is still on the machine in C:Programfiles (86) and works with no problems.  I also have WebsiteX5 Evolution 11 located at C:Programfiles (86). Both work.

I have only Windows Defender and went into settings for Defender and listed Website.exe under exclusion but it still does the same thing.  I cannot get far enough to activate the Lic..  No other messages or codes, just that WebsiteX5 stopped working -- tight at the opening start window?

Hello Dan,

Start the windows command prompt by opening the start in windows and then search for cmd.exe and once opened write:

lodctr /R

and then press enter

Once done test the program again.

Please keep me updated.

Remove any Lavasoft programs from your computer - they have been the cause of several instances of this problem for a number of users.

Hi Claudio,

I tried that and it did not work.  First it gave me a code 5 so I went back and did it over again but this time using "as administrator" and then the the command worked (lodctr/R) but it did not fix the problem.  I cancled my license and then waited a week and bought a new lic. and downloaded Evolution 13 again and this time I had it load in the ///program files (86) instead of /program files -- but it still does the same thing.  It was loading up the opening screen with the START button in the upper right corner but the opening screen was over layed with a message that WebsiteX5 had stopped working.  I notice that it is the 64bit model being uploaded -- how would I get the 32bit a try?

I am not using any Lavasoft programs.  I removed all antivirus and malware software from my laptop and use only Microsoft Defender.  Thanks for the tip but I have searched out and followed the instructions for removal and there is nothing there.

Hi Dan,

Lavasoft Web Companion seems to slip in to the systems of many uses without them realising it. Look on your installed programs for "Web Companion". If it is there, that's your issue! Mine uninstalled easily but others have found it harder to get rid of. You never know, it might be there on your system.

I tried everything, and I mean everything.  I followed all of the hints and tips and cmd command line as "authorized", and the software tool, etc. Nothing worked.  But, I did get it fixed by doing a windows reset -- ouch.  Yes, it hurt and now I am in the process of reinstalling other software the reset discarded, you know, like Windows Office.  All of the documents were kept but the software and other apps were all lost so I am starting over with a clean pc -- time consuming but now Websitex5 Evolution 13 is working.  Strange how version 11 and 12 worked just fine and 13 would not, that is until I did the Windows 10 "Reset".  I do hope anyone else with this same problem will not have to do what I did.  Thanks to everyone for trying to help, peace, Dan
