Update the php scripting version from 5.2 to at least 5.6

my hosting company say they no longer support php version 5.2 and that i must update my website, surely this should be taken care of from within website X5 as I dont have a clue what to do

We do no longer provide support for Version 10 since the release of Version 13 like announced on https://helpcenter.websitex5.com/en/post/154824
In any case you don't need to do anything in the project after the update of PHP on your hosting.

I think its outrageous that you sell me a product that is now out of date because you have released another version and my copy is going to be useless!!

Your version of the program is not useless and can still be used to create websites and update existing ones.
However, even if the version 10 is not directly supported by our customer service people, moderators and users are there to help for free. In fact, updating to a new version is not mandatory and you can still use a version and get free help from the community. The reason why our customer care operators work on the latest versions is to keep our product up-to-date to customers' needs, which are constantly changing due to our specific market.
