XML error importing version 11 project into Windows 10  en

I have a functioning website for www.booksforlife.today created with Website X5 Professional version 11 on a computer running Windows XP. When I did an export and imported it into Version 11 on a computer running Windows 10 there was an error message on opening the project: 'There is an error in XML document (6918,49).'

I substituted one of the backup iwprj files for the project file project.iwprj, and got exactly the same message.

I got the same message when I simply copied the old project files into the project folder, without doing an export.

The same thing happened with another website program created in the same way, except that the XML document line and character numbers were different.

Is this because of the change of the Windows OS, and if so what, if any, is the solution? Or is there another possible explanation and solution?

I've just tried importing the same project into version 12 which I also have (even though it was created in version 11), and it seems to have imported and opened correctly! (Apart from some loss of the original fonts.) Is there an explanation?

Arnold, I know the feeling of relief when an alternative solution is found.

Since you mention fonts, could it be that those used in the original project may not be present in Windows 10?

-or-

If they are not standard fonts in Windows, could required support files required not be present on the Win 10 installation??

I'll find what the missing fonts were that I used on my old computer, find and copy the font file from Windows\fonts, then install them on the new computer and then try another import.

What I meant was to ask if you had any explanation as to why in Windows 10 the projects wouldn't import into the WebX5 version 11 that they were created in but did import into version 12.

Arnold, I don't know the answer to that, I have imported projects from 9 thru to 12 and never had an issue (just lucky I guess). It may simply be that the method of generating the iwzip has improved. However,  I am aware of others having difficulty, and some of those were caused by the various ways fonts were embedded in earlier versions.

For what it's worth, I have opted to embed google fonts (V12 onwards) and use those in my sites. Not every version of windows (let alone different devices) have the same fonts, and even a common font like Times comes out as a form of helvetica on some devices.
