Odd happenings with a template from earlier versions  en

Hi all,

I developed a reference / information website a long time ago in WebSiteX5 and I have used the template every time the new versions come out, usually without error. But since the upgrade to the recent Version 13 (Professional) I have found that on this example: SIGWA Albany page there is an enormous amount of white space after the two side-by-side tables at the top of the page.

I've had similar problems with the e-mail form becoming extremely long, but have found a work-around by reducing the form (on the page layout grid) to one row only, this 'fixes' the problem.

I have tried re-setting (editing) the object settings on the grid but nothing seems to explain this 'random' fault.

Any tips towards a resolution would be gratefully received.

Cheers,

ChrisF.

Are you viewing a website with a phone, tabled or computer screen? Anyway first I would check Template structure settings and there about that maximum height -settings. Is there x mark in "Set high automaticly"?

You might like to export your site to iwzip (in V13) and then import your site from the iwzip and see if this fixes the issue. I have had a number of sites displaying odd spacing under cells when originally imported from earlier versions, if you are lucky the export/import process will clean out the glitch.

Hi, Not much luck fixing that page.

I tried the Export / Import and it remains the same.

I only use the PC to maintain the site and am viewing it on the PC.

I'm beginning to think it might be quicker just to make a duplicate of the page and then delete the troublesome page.

Hello Chris

Do you have some text you have clipped from the web and pasted into a textobject ?

I have sometimes done this, and it can give similiar results.

I then have to copy the text to notepad++ and back again.

When you see the text in the textobject nothing seems to be wrong - but it can give lot of white areas.

If you just copy the objects then maybe the strange things will also be copied.

I have one time tried where I had to move the objects one by one to find which had the "invisible code".

Kind regards

John S.

Chris, do you have any code embedded on the web page?

V13 is more intolerant of html code structure than was the case with earler versions.

Whilst I cannot look at the source code of your site (you have it protected), is the feedback form a standard WX5 feedback form? I note that this problem occurs on any page you have that form.

If you remove the form and the issue goes away, my suggestion is to first check all your "widgets" are up to date, then replace the feedback form with a newly created one.

Chris, you appear to have fixed the SIGW Albany page as in your first entry, how did you fix this?

By the same token there is a mass of space under the form on the contact page, is something supposed to be there?

If it is possible, it is better for us to see a live link to the website (provide a link), but if this is not possible (because the new site is under development), can you load the whole site into a temp directory (eg http://www.sigwa.info/temp) with copy protection turned off. With luck, someone far cleverer than myself may be able to identify the issue.

Hi Esahc,

I fixed the page by re-creating it from a copy of an empty file (hidden page), but just pasted it in the same directory, copied the objects one by one into the new page, then deleted the old page.

Seems I may have to do this with the Contacts page as well. Thanks for the 'heads up' on that one by the way.

I'm still none the wiser about why it is doing it though, but still intrigued about the possibility that there is something linked to the amount of text in a text object affecting the page layout when positioned next to other elements. Just a hunch.

Cheers for now.
