Editing png image crashes program  en

When I add a transparent background png image and then try to edit it the program crashes, if I use the same picture saved as a jpg the editing works OK except for the fact that the background is not transparent. Also the jpg image is larger than the png image.

I am trying to put the transparent background image on the header so the background image shows through the gaps in the logo image.

Any ideas as to a fix?

Best regards,

Mark.

Mark, if you save as GIF does this problem occur?

If you wish to attach your png I'd be happy to take a look, but what do you mean by edit in this case?

The gif works OK if you play with the opacity settings a bit to achieve a suitable appearance, but I think the png gives a better look on the older site that was done with 12pro - site has to be changed as paypal settings in 12pro don't work since paypal made some changes to their server settings.

Any ideas as to why png images don't work now?

Sorry mark - no idea, but just like GIF files, I have also experienced difficulties with PNG's (but rarely), in the past I have fixed this issue by opening in a suitable paint package, doing a minor resize and then save (if your editing was to resize the image, perhaps this is the perfect opportunity to save WX5 carrying out that task?). In my case, for whatever reason, the resultant PNG was stable.

I was just trimming a small piece off the bottom and going to try the mirror effect, this was something that worked fine in other versions of the program.

As a test I resized the image to a quarter of the original size before trying to edit it again; it still crashed, so I loaded it again and without resizing just applied the mirror effect - it still crashed.

On the crash the program doesn't shut down straight away but pauses to save a temporary copy of the project before shutting down. When reopening the project the temporary files have to be imported on the next start.

Mark, I have tried to reproduce this issue using a transparent png and mirror effect but could not, although, being a responsive site, WX5 did take a very significant amount of time to complete the regeneration of the site in all resolutions before the preview.

So. . .

Does WX5 crash using other PNG files?

If your site is responsive, can you temporarily change it to desktop and see if the problem persists?

Is the any chance you are working across a USB or network connection?

Is there any chance that your hardware could have an issue (run chkdsk c: /r)?
