Preview hangs  en

When selecting preview in 13pro it hangs, but when preview is closed and re-opened it works OK.

Any ideas as to a fix?

Best regards,

Mark.

Mark, if you hold CTRL when selecting preview it will clear the cache and force a rebuild of the site. Perhaps whatever you are doing is affecting more than the page you wish to preview and creating a form of conflict?

If the problem persists, can you advise the type of changes you are making when you have this issue.

I usually ctrl/preview after making a big change and normally have no problem but in 14pro there is a tendency to lock up and remain in that state on the first preview even directly after loading the project if you don’t do a ctrl preview – if the stalled preview is closed and opened again it works OK and continues to do so for the rest of the session.

Also noticed that after closing the preview the whole program locks up for a few minutes and nothing can be selected - other than being able to select and open a preview window again, the preview then opens OK, but it takes a while to load as if the control has been held down on selection.

Mark. I have experienced a similar issue in the past, in my case the issue was either caused by excessive fragmentation or a "failing" hard drive. In either case, I ran chkdsk c: /r (and the same for the drive on which I had WX5 source files) and then I used a 3rd party deframenter (defraggler - free). For me this resolved all issues.

Do you have one or many projects that have this issue?

Hi Esachc,

Sorry for delay getting back to you, I've been in hospital for a bit.

The drive is defragged automatically every week so it's not too bad, and I should have enough room for everything to work OK.

The problem seems to happen mainly on the large projects - but then again I havent messed around with many small projects lately, and the problem doesn't happen every time I preview but it seems to increase in frequency the longer the project is open.

The preview screen opens and the green bar in the bottom right of the fram progresses quite quickly to about 90% and then goes blank, all the time the x5 logo strobes but nothing else happens no matter how long you leave it. Close the preview down and reopen it gives the green bar to 90% then it blanks but text saying 'loading project' appears on the left and the preview opens shortly after - if I am working on the project longer it can some times take two attempts before the preview opens.

Saving the project prior to previewing has no effect, but closing the program fully and reopening seems to clear the problem for a bit.

Is it a memory leak? Firefox used to be affected quite badly at one time - in fact it still has a bit of a problem with space leak if you leave it open all day...

Best regards,

Mark

Mark, the only other suggestion I have based on previous performance issues is this. . .

Open the windows start menu or press the Windows Key + R and search for cmd.exe and  with the rightlick option choose to run it as administrator.

- In the Command Prompt enter following command:

lodctr /R

- Press enter

As a matter of passing interest, have you tried disabling your anti-virus (temporarily)? I have come across one or 2 packages that are a bit aggressive when it comes to file creation scanning.

If nothing helps, let us know and we'll call on Incomedia to see if they have any other tricks.
