Parallax flicker  en

Author: John S.
Visited 7407, Followers 1, Shared 0

There is a problem with the parallax. There is a flickering.

It should run quite smooth ( it does on sites NOT built with X5 ) - but it does not.

- In Chrome it looks OK nice.

- In Firefox it is quite okay when using the mouse-wheel, but there is much flicker when using the scroll-bar.

- In Edge it is really bad - both with mouse-wheel and scrollbar.

- In IE it is bad - both with mouse-wheel and scrollbar.

You can see an example on my testsite here : http://www.bramminginfo.dk/brm01

I hope you will get this fixed, as it should function in the browsers mentioned, as they are quite common ( yes - IE is still used )

Kind regards

John S.

John, I agree that Incomedia need to look at this issue, but I have found that I can minimise the effect by ensuring that the image/s being used is an appropriate resolution for the site. I have also found that if I turn parallax on the problem is minimised (as in your 3rd background image)

If parallax is turned on in your first 2 images, I suspect the issue is that the image is not deep enough to allow the partial scroll to function.

- nice home page

Hello Esahc

The images I use is optimized for web.

This image :

is 1920 x 885 and is 213 Kb.

For this image I use 3: fix parallax.

And - this is how I want it to be - but without flickering.

Kind regards

I have the same problem on the website www.soundwave-studio.nl . I tried different formats and sizes for the picture's but that makes no difference at all. However I think it's more due to how the webbrowsers are handeling pictures.

Hello John,

I already notified it to the developers about the issue in EDGE. What you can try is to reduce the depth to 100%.

About internet explorer since it is an old browser which has been replaced by EDGE it will be difficult to have a solution for it since it hasn't received updates since a long time.

Many thanks!

Hello Claudio

I have been experimenting with some sliders. Somehow I managed to do something like the "parallax fix".

An example here : http://www.bramminginfo.dk/brm02/side-37---kopi.html

I have tried this in different browsers - Chrome, Firefox, Edge and IE - and there is absolutely no flickering - not at all.

Try it yourself - maybe in different browsers.

It is quite smooth as it should be.

When I as a web-amateur can have a "parallex fix" without flickering, then INCOMEDIA's brillant people should be able to fix the parallax flickering.

Yesterday I should show the demo-home-page : http://www.bramminginfo.dk/brm01/

Unfortunately the PC I should demonstrate on, only had IE installed. It should/could have been a good demonstration, but the flickering totally spoiled the demo.

I really hope you will get it fixed.

Kind regards

John S.

Hello John,

Do you refer to the wow slider?

The parallax effect is meant to create the illusion of a depth and it seems the issue on EDGE depends on the low frequency the browser works.

Many thanks!

Hello Claudio

No - forget the wow-slider.

it is possible to have parallax without flickering - but not in X5.

An example from one of our newspapers :

https://www.information.dk/mofo/naturkatastroferne-viser-hvem-tilhoerer-underklassen-usa?utm_source=Ugens+mest+l%C3%A6ste&utm_campaign=71a664241d-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2017_11_26&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_551d502c69-71a664241d-413742277&mc_cid=71a664241d&mc_eid=e994a0efba

This functions in all browsers and without flickering - so it can be done. I can find more examples if you wish.

Just received a mail from INCOMEDIA where I am told how important the parallax-effect can be - so please have the parallax effect to function without flickering. It is not acceptable that it only functions in Chrome. Others can have it to function and I am sure that you can too.

The Parallax should be the reason for version 13 and version 14 - please make it be so.

Kind regards

John S.

Okay then : http://www.wysiwygwebbuilder.com/support/parallaxlayers.html

I have tested this in Edge, IE, Chrome and Forefox. Performs quite smooth.

I will now try if I can do the same in X5 when using different settings.

I hope you agree that it should function in the most common browsers. On desktop's it is still Chrome, Firefox and IE/Edge.

Kind regards

Hello KolAsim

Whatever settings I use in X5 ( fix parallax ) I can't have it to function in Edge/IE. And it should function - else it cannot be used.

Yes I am interested in your code. i can see the code, but I think I maybe will need some explanation to some parts of it.

However - Also with your example, the image bumps up-and-down when using the Edge browser.

I hope INCOMEDIA will tell us, if they intend to solve this problem.

Hello INCOMEDIA

I have a new example here : http://nyheder.tv2.dk/2017-11-22-pigen-med-de-blaa-oejne-ville-draebe-i-halvmoerket-fejltagelsen-vil-forfoelge-mig-resten

This I saw today.

It has all the effects - Parallax - fixed parallax and "normal" background

I have tested it in :

Edge

Firefox

IE

Chrome.

When using the scrollbar ALL browsers shows the page perfectly smooth. It is really nice to see.

When using the mouse-scroll-wheel, it performs perfect in Chrome, Firefox and Edge.

Only when using the mouse-wheel in IE there is some flicker.

This, I accept I will have to live with.

I hope you will learn of this. If you can't find out how others are able to have it to function, then please contact someone who are able to.

I really hope you will have it to function, as we cannot know what browsers users will use to watch our page, but I know that Edge is one of those browsers. If a site is made with X5 and (fix)parallax is used and the user is using Edge - he will think : what an amateur that created this site - I will leave it at once.

I still trust in you laughing

Kind regards and wishing you all a happy new year.

Same problem here. Interestingly, the flickering appears less severe in X5`s preview browser. Nobody may really care about Internet Explorer any more but the flickering makes the parallax effect useless under edge and almost so under firefox.

I think it has been in V14 from the beginning. You will not be aware, if you only use Chrome on a desktop. But we all know that people, that visits our sites, also use other browsers and platforms.

I think we are many that waits for it to get fixed - we can't make decent sites as it is now.

Maybe INCOMEDIA can tell from when this happened.

Hello INCOMEDIA

If I read this carefully, there is no indication, that the deveolepers are working on correcting this very important issue - only that they are informed. It also says that they are working to improve functionality -in what program are we talking about ???

If you take a look at the many idea-posts, none of these are in the V15. I could make a looong list.

BUT - the functions that IS already in the software ( X5 ) should function. The parallax effect is sometimes an important part of a site.

Others can have it to function.

ARE THE PROGRAMMERS WORKING ON THIS ISSUE ?

Kind regards

Because INCOMEDIA is able to edit posts, my former post seem to be a bit silly.

The reason ( for the post ) is, that Elisa wrote : Hello guy

The extra s that was later added by INCOMEDIA ( Elisa I guess ) , made the post from Elisa address all the former participants in this thread and not only me. And this makes more sense.

This post is just to inform readers that the last post from Elisa has been edited since I posted the former post - and now MY post makes no sense. I cannot edit or delete posts so : forget my former post. And Elisa : It is not good karma, to edit posts that is responded to - it would have been better to make a new post for correction. But maybe you would avoid bumping this thread. But it is now :-).

Yet another month.

Normally when I have problems with bugs, that are not fixed, in some software, there could be 2 reasons :

- The software is outdated, and the software firm has stopped support for it.

- The software is under heavy development, and the programmers have their priority on new, very useful, functions wanted by some long-time loyal users.

In the period from I reported this annoying bug, I have not seen some new very useful functions. Have all the developres been busy with developing a new professional shopping system?

When will they have finished this new shopping system?

It would be good to know when they will have the focus on the X5 core-system, so we could have bugs fixed, and have some of the ( other sealed ) new functions we have asked for so long. ( just to mention : the html-sitemap and the setting of both shown time and transition time in gallery and image-list in row-formats )

Just received a mail from INCOMEDIA about Silvias "Dream Shop".

Maybe all the developers has been moved to the sales department !!!!!!

Hello Elisa

I know that it is different for the browsers.

Other companies also discovered this problem. At nearly the same time I reported it to this forum, I can see the problem was also handled by other companies.

You can see an example here : https://theme.co/apex/forums/topic/microsoft-edge-and-parallax-scrolling/

AND they solved it http://demo.theme.co/smooth-scroll/

I tried the demo page in edge - functions nearly perfect.

In firefox it is super - perfect !!!!

In Chrome it functions as expected - nearly perfect.

It even functions in IE when using the browsers scrollbar !

It does not function in IE when using the mouse-scroll, but as said before : As long as it functions in the OTHER browsers.

It would be a good thing, that you also solved this. It has been there too long, I think.

Hello INCOMEDIA

You must have one or two persons in charge.
I have a suggestion for them :
Call in for a meeting for your whole staff.

I also have a suggestion for some words that could be spoken :

Hello staff.
We have a great product. I know it could be better in some points. We have the e-commerce - this is not PRO.
As you all know we have a whole group working on this project, and we also have some partnering in mind.

But we have this with the parallax things. This is a problem for us. We have this user that once a month remind us of the problem.
And he is right. We have a product we call PRO. This also means that our product is not just for kids to play around with. And we also expect our users to pay an upgrade price once a year. Our prices for the PRO-versions is not for amateurs.

I would say - we cannot have yet a new release where this problem is STILL not solved.
Even if the parallax thing is not as hyped as it used to be, then it is still an important thing in building websites.

We cannot be a responsible firm that should not be able to solve this - as you all know - in other products they have been able to solve this problem.

Fixing the parallax things has now the highest priority!!!

So - come on staff - let's get it fixed.
Thank you for your attention.

Hello Elisa

First - Thank you, for taking me ( and other users that reported the same problem ) and the problem seriously.

Second - It is not just my test-project. When I discovered how awful the parallax looked in some browsers, I stopped using the parallax when using X5.

What I will do now is this : I will make a new project in the newest X5 version, and here make some parallax effects, and then I will test it with Chrome, Firefox, Edge and on tablet and mobile.

If the problem is not there anymore, I will shout hurray and tell here on the forum - in this thread, that I don't see the problem anymore.

If I still see the problem, I will make a new post (private )  where I describe some of the problems, and I will give a link to the project in this other post.

I have now produced a project - there was still a lot of flickering, so there is something for INCOMEDIA to test on.

I think INCOMEDIA does this, not just to give us feeling that something is done, but because they really want to solve a problem. Only thing I don't understand is, why they could not just produce a test-project themselve.

I guess that the developers now has a new version/release ready, and before they go to Beta, they want to see if they have solved the flickering, and wanted a project created by a user, so they could see if the new version will be flicker-free.

I have therefore also invested in a new upgrade period.

Do you think I am naive??

John, why do you concern yourself with Edge?

Perhaps a disclaimer in very small text on any website you build may be enough to get your users to use any alternative browser. This is a Microsoft problem, not a WX5 problem.

If using the mouse wheel, my site (www.esahc.com) looks like crap and is extremely jumpy, even with text only (dragging the scroll slider works fine).

BUT

This Helpcenter has exactly the same issue!!!

I am composing this reply in Edge, and if I use the mouse wheel to roll up and down it flickers and jumps just as your images do. It is not a parallax image issue, it is an Edge failure (for ALL WEBSITES). Microsoft will surely fix it eventually, why punish Incomedia? Firefox and Chrome do not appear to have any issues (although firefox appears smoother).

Hello Esahc

Why do we have to have this discussion again?

X5 should function in all modern browsers.

Edge has come to stay, and as it is pre-installed on new Windows PC's then it will become more used by time.

When you build a site you cannot know what browser the "guest" is using and you cannot tell : Edge users - stay away from this site. And as Giuseppe pointed out, there is also a problem with mobiles. But maybe we could on the homepage tell : You have to use a desktop with Chrome or Firefox as browser, if you want to view my site.

I am not "punishing" INCOMEDIA. I just tell there is a problem with the parallax that they hyped a lot from start - and I only ask for a solution. I know it is the browser that is rendering the pages, but it is the server that delivers the code, and it is X5 that has created the code.

I know that it is Edge and the mobile browsers that is acting different concerning the parallax, but I also know that it can be fixed, if INCOMEDIA thinks that it is important that we have a function like the parallax that functions smooth.

INCOMEDIA should be in the segment that produces code that functions smooth - they should leave the normal behaviour that cannot handle Edge,  in the segment with the free webbuilders.

And now INCOMEDIA must know why so many users are sceptical about the new introduced feature of UPDATE PROTECTION. This post shows clearly why users are loosing trust in Incomedia. This post proves my point. I purchased ver 14 pro we are now on ver16 and STILL no fix almost a year later.

So if you release ver 17 and the parallax is fixed and I did not pay for UP then I loose out. For me to get the fix I have to pay £79.50 for somthing that should have been working in my version.

The parallax feature SHOULD have been working in ver14 from the start. And this is only one of many unfinished features within the program.

There is little incentive for Incomedia to fix their software as long as the money keeps coming in. You need to speak with your wallet and hold off on “Update Protection.” Since when do customers pay for a product that does not yet actually exist?

Hello William

It's OK. This with the parallax and some other stuff, should be what we pay the update price for. And for new things.

But we still have problems with the parallax and we have not seen much new things. Well - we had the accordion but we ALSO  had to pay for that.

As said before I am maybe naive, but I have bought the update for yet a year. Maybe it is a naive hope, but I expect the parallax to be solved and that we will see some of the new things we users have been asking for.

Still waiting and hoping. I like the X5. I also use alternatives and if parallax is not fixed, I intend to give up X5.

The developers are still analysing your project. As I mentioned, this is not only an issue which depends on from the program, but from the browsers, too, so that the whole situation is being monitored. Surely your contribute can be of great help.

@William, please let's keep discussing the Update Protection on the other post, as unfortunately here it would be off-topic.

Thanks! Kind regards.

Another month and another version has arrived - but no solution for the parallax yet.

I made a testproject, but also there is no news. It seems that nothing happens about this.

Yes Andre - but it is not a happy anniversary - it's sad.

Try look at this :  https://illvid.dk/dyr/fotodoc-morkets-fyrster?c_rid=63zc0d12019vrzisadg663614013%7C70999356&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=nb_ill_dk_son_uge48-%28667776%29&utm_content=&utm_source=illvid.dk&email=3a7999e3116e7826322094b293198dcff0c024c7be76750c09e181a25728680f&utm_term=rumfart

And then when I try to make some similar : http://www.bramminginfo.dk/brm26/side-7.html

It should be viewed in the Edge browser.

The one is made with X5 - and the other is not - guess which!!!!!

Yeah I know it's sad, and it does not look good.

It should be fixed and better yesterday then tomorrow.

I realy hope Incomedia adresses this with priority, it is bad and taking far too long.

The problem of flickering is even worse on mobile devices, such as smartphones. Even on the Chrome browser it's bad. I would have thought the problem would have been fixed in version 17, but it's no different.

In another post ( https://helpcenter.websitex5.com/en/post/186659 ), it was mentioned that changing the image size to 800 dpi would improve the parallax, but I tried that and many other different sizes and it did not work.  I tried on existing hosted websites and on blank (from scratch, just to test this issue) projects and the problem persists.  This issue was less problematic with version 16 (it was more stable, less noticible), but with version 17 it went back to the original bad behavior.

It's been almost two years with this problem... please fix it.  Just to point the obvious, parallax is a main feature requested and used today on websites... it is not good for incomedia to hace this problem persisting for so long...

  • Here is flickering example with pure HTML, CSS, and JS (from the Stackoverflow thread):  Parallax flickering
  • Here is NOT flickering example with pure HTML, CSS, and JS (fromt he Stackoverflow thread):  Parallax NOT flickering

What causes the flickering is obvious and there you have the solution... all is needed is that the Incomedia programmers implement it in Website X5.

It should take a day to fix the code in Website X5... let's say a week... done.  But why almost two years and this issue has not been addressed?

I also know it can be solved. It has been done by other software producers.

I think INCOMEDIA is laughing at us. PRO users pay over 100 EURO / year if they have UP - and despite that, we have in long time NOT heard from INCOMEDIA of ANY progress.

If we have another year without this problem solved, then I will not continue with this software, and only use my other software.

The problem is that I like the X5 - but if we reach the end of next year without a good solution I will say : Enough is enough.

OMG still no fix for this???  please Incomedia, step up and fix this already!!!

I decided not to pay for update protection because of the bugs and the poor way you managed the transition to the yearly model for us old clients.

Hi!

Thx John for your endurance! I wish I had been reading this thread before investing ~400Eur in this program (x5 pro, templates and extensions/addons).

I have the same issue on my dev-surrounding: http://xn--lernsprnge-geb.benlovesmari.com/vorlaeuferfaehigkeiten.html

I'm working on my Lenovo Thinkpad (LT) running Win10 with different browsers, touchpad and Mouse. And second testing also on a MacPro (2017 - no touch bar), but an older stylus pen and the same Mouse. All browsers are updated.

LT with firefox: A jump once in a while - mostly when coming down to the bottom or back up to top.

LT with chrome: Same, seems just a little smoother.

LT with edge: catastrophe. With mouse every single click on the wheel makes the pic jump. Smoother, but still not good with the touchpad.

MAC with Safari: Same as edge on windows.

MAC with chrome: Same as with LT (not perfect, but very ok).

Don't get me wrong: I like the x5, it's pretty easy to work with and props to the community: I often find threads with solutions for my challenges/problems/questions!

As often asked for here: Inco, take this serious and get this solved!

KR, Ben

I am glad I read this thread.  I have been a loyal user of WebX5 for many years (my latest version is Pro v. 12).  I was going to buy the new Pro v. 17 as I want to make a new website BUT PARALLAX is critical to that site.  Looks like Incomedia has lost a loyal customer.  I do not have a year to wait for a fix.  I find this very disapointing but I am happy I did not waste my money.

I think the version 12 was the best version ever.

I know more things have been added since, but regarding stability and user-friendlliness I think INCOMEDIA peaked with V 12.

All the time and effort since then, has not brought much extra to the product.

I went PRO from version 13, and tried after that to get a PRO-version for v. 12, but this was not possible.

One of the things that is new since v. 12 is the parallax !!!!!!!!!

Since v.12 is removed :

The html sitemap

The automatic left menu

The configurable gallery where you could set for which pages the images should appear - could be used for language settings, and much more.

Be happy you have the PRO version and consider upgrading when/if the parallax is fixed.

With the 2109 it seems that most of the problems regarding the parallax has been fixed.

I will therefore close this thread and if other problems with parallax should arise, I will make a new post.

This post has been visited about 3500 times - I really hope no other posts reporting problems will have as many views......

But - now it is closed.
