Blog Entries are removed after updating project to web

I recently added a Blog function to my web site. I added 2 entries, came out of the site, went back in and the entries were still there, as I would expect.
I then updated the project for something else (nothing to do with the Blog function) and then uploaded the amended project to my web site.
When I went to the Blog function, the 2 items previously entered were not there.
I am assuming there is a setting somewhere, which ensures Blog items previously entered remain even after a project update.
Can you help please.

Mike, on the assumption that the blog entries are still visible locally in preview, can you try a full upload rather than a new and changed files upload?

Esahc,
I do not use the 'new and changed files upload' facility within Website X5 to upload a project. I always copy the entire newly created project files to my desktop PC, then use Ipswitch WS FTP_12 to :-
1st - Delete all relevant files from the server.
2nd - Upload the new files to my web server location.
I do that so I can see if my newly created project is right before placing the files on my web server.
The above means I always upload a complete set of project files.
Back to your assumption - I'm afraid the blog entries do not show when doing a preview.
Regards,
Mike.
Hello Mike,
Can you please check if in a new project you experience the same issue?
In ase try also to export the project as IWZIP file and then import it back and then add the blog entries again and check if then these remains visible.
Many thanks!

Claudio/Esahc,
Firstly, and thinking about things, you cannot expect to see Blog entries in Preview, because the info about the blog entries is only held on the web server, not within Website X5 files on my PC.
That said, I'm pretty sure I have solved the problem. Let me take you through what I have done this morning.
1. On my web site created yesterday, I created a few blog items this morning.
2. I looked at my web site files on the server, to find only one file with a date of today. This was a binary file with the file name of '168f6bdf0003'. No such file exists within my PC files.
3. I deleted all the Website X5 files except the binary file. I then carried out a total upload of the project created yesterday, meaning the binary file stayed in place.
4. On checking the web site, good news ! - the blog items were still present.
5. I was concerned that the binary file was specific to the project number from yesterday, so I created a new project this morning.
6. Again, I did a total upload of the newly created project from this morning, making sure to keep the binary file in place.
7. Again good news ! - the blog entries were still present.
But what this means is :-
But first, just a reminder :- I update my web site as follows :-
I delete all the Website X5 files on my web server location first, then do a full upload using Ipswitch WS FTP_12, which does the upload from the files I have previously stored on my PC.
Anyone who updates their web site in the same manner as me will have the same problem, ie. if they delete all the Website X5 files before an upload, they will delete the important binary file (which obviously contains blog entries).
Surely, I'm not the only person using the blog function, but who updates their web site as above !!!
If that is the case, how come no-one else has reported this problem ?
Regards,
Mike.
Mike, are you using the built in blog in WX5, or a 3rd party Blog?
For what it's worth, I have only ever deleted the content on my host when I have experienced a major issue (only once in 7 years), and I use both the built in FTP client and 3rd party clients. This process never deletes files placed by 3rd parties whether I use full upload or new and changed.
Why do you see it as necessary to delete all files before upload?

Esahc,
I am using the inbuilt Blog facility within Website X5.
Call me old fashioned, but before I retired, I worked in IT for 45 years. In that time, whenever I was involved with updating a set of files, I always deleted the complete set of existing files before carrying out a full replacement. This guarantees a 'clean' build with no files 'left over' from a previous build. Any 'left over' files will only cause confusion, when analysing problems at a later date. I intend to continue with the 'full delete before upload' approach.
Obviously, as in this case where the binary file (which I mentioned above) contains Blog entries from previous inputs, that file needs to remain.
Now I know that, I will ensure it is not deleted.
What your comments above indicate to me, is that I am probably the only person using Website X5, who always carries out a full delete before a new upload.
Mike.
Mike I doubt you are the last, but the last time I got my fingers burnt was back when we converted from V8 to V9 and incomedia replaced the underbar with a hyphen for all blank spaces in page names. Following a full delete (actually a change of host and I only uploaded the site, not all the existing files on the old host) I found I orphaned a great number of direct links to my site. Since then I have been acutely aware that if I rename a page and then delete all files, the result will be orphaned links when people have bookmarked my pages.
I no longer delete lightly.
Merry Christmas
