Hello R. Hillebrand.
I did not think of ever needing this, but, I have started a tuturial, it's old and I stopped it because x5 became responsive in a better way then this tutorial.
Hopefully it still works, give it a try.

But way beter, upgrade!

R. Hillebrand, if you click on your profile (top right), Offers, you might be pleasantly surprised at how little the upgrade to V14 evo is ?
If your existing site uses galleries, they are probably flash based. Flash is no longer supported on most mobile devices and many browsers, there may also be other superseded techniques and features in V9.
. . . . . just a thought

Thank you Andre and Esahc. Looks like I have got some work to do. I am a bit concerned about all the fault finding which will have to be done after an upgrade to version 14 or even after following Andre´s steps to duplicate the current project. I suppose there is no way round it.
The conversion to V14 is surprisingly good (I am currently doing a large V10 to V14), but the menu's may bend your mind a bit and when you go responsive you will have many things to entertain you :-)
Enjoy - whichever way you jump.

sounds ominous
Conversion is good but due to the many changes in templates and working method from v9. You will certaibly need to adapt, but you will get better coding / seo and newer options in return.
And it is possible to make your website look like today's site's are.
There are a lot of things that have changed on internet in way of viewing.....
But it depends on the project and it is definatly a different way of handling and creating if you go to v14, but it's worth it at the end!
And if stuck, there is a lot of help! Here, in the help files, and the conversion guides can give you in advance a good idea on what's ahead.

Also you can offcource try for yourself the demo version to see what the fuzz is al about.

Goodluck on your decision.

I have tried the Demo version and found it to be very different from the version I am familiar with. I will have to start relearning most of what I was used to.
This is not so hard.
Know how to do it in V9 but can't work it out in V14?, just ask - one of us will answer :-)
It is your choice, and there is help here as Esahc also has kindly offered.
But yes a lot of things are handled a little bit different, and it is needed to get a good responsive site.
But have you seen the result from a few simple items?
Goodluck on your decision.

Thank you all for your kind assistance. It will be a while before I will be able to tell which was the best way to solve my problem.

I am somewhat disappointed in Evolution 14. After installing the trial version I set up a mobile friendly page and failed. I employed all the recommended settings and was happy to see it looking good on my PC. When I switched the view to the lower resolution of a mobile device the headline disapppeared behind the header image. This renders an upgrade completely useless. I am now looking to drop websiteX5 altogether and try and find a new package.
If you got your site to your satisfaction in desktop view, you simply missed a few steps.
Click preview and make the preview window smaller. You will see the coloured lines across the top, they denote the resolution changes (desktop, tablet, mobile landscape, mobile portrait, etc), so you can see the different resolutions right on your PC.
Everything fits on desktop, so now it is time to adjust for tablet. Select step2 Template , template content. On the left hand side there is a vertical bar, you can select between the breakpoints to manipulate the header content.
If something doesn't fit, you can simply resize or reposition it. This will not alter the desktop view. EG in the screen grab above, the menu doesn't fit, I can reposition and resize it to my liking. If all else fails you can even hide for this or lesser resolutions, then simply add a new piece of text, image, menu, etc that is more suitable. Anything you add will only be visible at the resolution you add it or lower.
NB Never delete an object, this will delete that object at every resolution!!
Ultimately you have to carry out these steps for every resolution. It seems like a pain, but it gives you absolute control over the content of the header and footer. You could even design a header with a different background (or none) that looks nothing like the desktop header if that is what you wanted.
Please do not give up on WX5, the fun has only just begun :-)
When I did my first responsive header I was so overwhelmed that I first created for desktop, moved to tablet, hid all content, added what I wanted, moved to mobile and again hid all content and then again added what I wanted. I now know there is an easier and better way, but I created my site to my satisfaction very quickly.
