Ok. Was making a few changes to a project when the computer blue screened and restarted. Tried to open the project and got these messages

After clicking exit on the last box x5 shuts down. I have had this problem before and it was never sorted. I do have backups but no matter which one I choose it gives me the error. It only happens on the project I was working on. All the others open ok.

William, have you restarted your PC since experiencing the problem?

Are there any backups of this project available (in the backup folder inside the project)??

Hi Esahc, yes I have restarted the pc and yes there are backups in the folder, quite a few. I have attempted to restore all of them but still get the problem. Seems that the actual project is at fault. I can open any other projects just not this one. Happened a while ago same thing. I was lucky i had made a copy to import. This is what happened on 3 occasions

i was working on my website making changes for different resolutions.

i was previewing the changes and checking at different points via the preview button in x5

worked for about 3 mins when for no reason computer blue screened and restarted.

tried to open the project and got the messages above.

this is the 3rd time this has happened ALL when I was previewing the changes within x5.

Just another observation my computer NEVER blue screens at any other time. This has only happened when previewing within x5

William, are there any zero length files in the project directory?

Perhaps you could take a screen shot which includes files sizes and post it here?

I am not aware of any stability issues with WX5 at this time, although I always try to save before preview, especially when working with changes that affect all pages.

When you get your project back, it might be a good idea to make infrequent iwzip files (export the project) as insurance.

Hi Esahc, no all backup files looked good. Just attempting to open any of the backups shut x5 down?? Not worried now since I had already been making regular iwzip files as insurance since the first time it happened. Incidentally I too make regular backups before previewing. I just think something might be wrong with the preview within x5 since it has crashed my computer 3 times whilst doing the exact same thing i.e. making a change to the responsive resolutions and when I drag the preview screen to view the different layouts my computer crashed resulting in the above warnings.

Hello William,

Can you please open the details tab the next time you get the error window and copy the content and paste it here so I can see what causes it?

Many thanks!

Hi Claudio,

well same thing happened, I was making adjustments to the project and was checking the layout using preview and sliding the webpage to view the responsive layout when once again it crashed my computer and restarted. When I attempted to open the project I got this error

note the "Modified on" date for the project? every time I try and open the project I get this error. ALL other projects open ok apart from the one Iwas working on. I have checked the backup folder and there are no zero files. I have taken some of the recent backups and replaced them and renamed them to project.iwprj2 but I still cannot open the project. I don't get the other message now just this one.

Ok using the preview to check the responsive layout "seems" to crash my computer?? so far it has happend twice more since my last post. Every time whilst previewing the responsive layout it works for a short time then just blue screens my computer. At this point I cannot open the details tab to copy any content to post. I have kept a copy of the file this time should you need it. At this point I have noticed that I do not get the 3rd error box that closed x5 I just click on ok and it clears the box and the program stays open where as the last time it just closed the program.

Cheers,

Hello William,

In the blue screen can you plerease copy the error message?

Have you tired to update all the drivers installed in windows?

Did you recently install a Windows Update?

If yes try to remove the update and reinstall it again since it could be it has not been installed  correctly.

Many thanks!

Hi Claudio, yes all my drivers are up to date and my computer is up to date. I have had this problem for a while now and updates have not cleared it. I ONLY get this error when I use preview and adjust the screen to check the responsive layout? I NEVER get a blue screen any other time only when running x5. I have even wiped my computer and clean installed win 10 pro and only x5 and I still get the error. Im not too bothered about it since I have backups but it would be nice to have the feature working smile I have sent the error code a few times via the program when I got the chance to but somthing seems different now in that the program does not completely shut down now it just takes me back to stage 1. In fairness this could be a windows problem but I will continue to check and update here.

cheers,
