Simple beginner question RE: links to local PC file  en

I am making an internal website for our company to store documents that various people need access to- mainly PDF files.

I'm not worried about the design etc. but I have made a long list of the documents as a text objects and want to link each item to a PDF file. If I used the "Link to Local file on PC" option, does this save as a file path or as the actual PDF file?

Will other people be able to view it on their computers where they don't have access to my files?

Thank you.

Katie, if you link to a local file each pdf will be embedded in the project, and when you upload your site each pdf will be available online.

Just be aware that if you add, delete or replace any one pdf, all the other pdf's on that page will be uploaded again as well.  There is a work around to this (put the pdf's online and link to them), but I have never fealt the need, even when I need to add a new "magazine" every week to one of my sites.

Thank you for your help!

Do you know if this also works for Word and Excel files? The links aren't working when I click them in the preview...

Hello Katie,

I confirm you can have your users to download the .cvs files, too. The download will be possible once the website is online.

Please let me know if you need further help. Kind regards.

Katie,

If you use files that are known to the pc they are viewed on, the pc of the website viewer will open the file if it is reccognised. (like if there is a pdf reader and it is a pdf it will start the pdf reader program and open the file in it)

If you don't have pdf on your computer then it will be downloaded.

So this differs on according to the pc of the user!

If you want it to be downloaded always, use the download object (it is made for most extension's but not all but word and excel are )

Or make the file a zip file! That is always downloaded.

Hope this helps!

Best Regards
