Hi

Our club website is to incorporate a members only area with email and password login. Is there a guide how to set this up using the login widget?

I can put the widget on the page but how do I set it up to work?

Thanks in advance

Hello Steve,

First of all Website x5 is not made to create an members site with, if you wish, I would advice you to create an IDEA post (there are probably already a few, but the more or add your statement to an already excisting IDEA post) the better change that Incomedia will make something.

To create a page or several pages that are only for users that can acces this page you need to lock the page (step3 button on top). On the same button you can give acces to that page to people that has been created or have created there own login in the acces management. (step1 advanced TAB -> acces managemend.

that is infact it.  In acces management there is a tab with settings, check that also out.

Here is more info: http://help.websitex5.com/en/v15/pro/es_area.htm

example of an IDEA post: https://helpcenter.websitex5.com/en/post/184877

Best Regards

Hi Andre, Im not sure I understand your reply

"First of all Website x5 is not made to create an members site with" ??

Am I missing somthing here? Steve B has said that he has put the log-in onto the page. I have made a complete members only website that requires login for ALL pages apart from the landing / home page. This is made with website x5 pro.

So X5 Pro IS made to create a members only area is this not correct??

Best Regards

Yes, William you are correct as I also stated, you can create hidden pages and make them available for only users with a login.

But Steve also says that it is a clubwebsite, most club website's users would like to acces there own portal and maintain email and other items. ( like here in answers for instance) I just mention that this is not possible in x5.

So I provided 2 answers, and Steve has his answer both ways.

I am not sure what he means exactly because I have no idea about the club and the exact intensions.

That's why I wrote it like this.

And I also hope that Incomedia will create something like a members login that can be maintain by users, like in the IDEA post requested.

It is offcource possible with custom coding, like in the IDEA post as well.

But there is difference between an members website and a part of a webpage that is available for certain visitors.

Hope it's more clear this way, sorry if this confused you William.

Best Regards,

Hello Steve and William

As Andre tells, X5 is NOT a member-system. In X5 you can create pages that are only visible for some users or a group of users. That is all.

If you are looking for a system where users can maintain their own details, can self assign if allowed, can post news and make internal mails to each other, can be allowed to download material and eventual upload and all this can be set with credentials for a group of users or for a single user -and much more - then you have to look for another software for this part.

I would then recommend that you take a look at ADMIDIO - a free member system.

You find it here : https://www.admidio.org

The ADMIDIO is a fantastic member-system, but it is NOT a tool to create websites.

X5 is a good tool to create good-looking websites. Ideal is to use X5 to create websites, and then integrate the ADMIDIO ( or another member-system ) into this website. Either by iframes or by links.

Kind regards

John S.

Hi Andre, I understand now what you were saying in your reply smile I took Steve B post literally to mean just the login with locked pages hence the misunderstanding.

Kind regards

William

No problem William, we are here to help and I can also read sometimes wrong, in the many years I do this it still is sometimes difficult to find out the real problem.

But I hope Steve gains something out of all the help.

John has joined also, so plenty of help.

Best Regards

Hi

Thank you for you comments, to clarify we have a home page and a whats on page that anyone can view. It is a Magic Club so we want a members only page where we will have secrets for illusions and tricks that we do not want the general public to view. I am just struggling to make the page have this facility.

I will read through the comments above but thank you all.

Regards

Steve

Hello Steve

On 3

You mark the page you want to lock by clicking on it. When the page is in focus, you click on "Locked page/Låst side"

Then the page is locked and only the persons you give access to the page, can enter the page

You can place a login-object in your header. Then people can see that some pages on the site is locked. When a user logs in by using the login object, he will not be met with the login page when he tries to enters a locked page - he will have immediate access to all the pages, his credentials allows him.

In short :

- If a user is not logged in then trying to access a locked page will present the user for the login page.

- If a user IS logged in, he can access the locked pages he has been given access to.

On a page you want to lock, you can give access to one or more users, or you can group users and then give access to a group.
