Christoper, with my google site verification I had to copy a file (provided by google) into the root directory of my website (using filezilla or similar), did you do this?

Each domain gets its own code, if you are in the correct domain in Search-Console and paste it in Websitex5 as in the picture, the verification should be done without problems after uploading the website in wx5.

Another method is to insert the file with the code on the server.

Reply to Eshac - Yes tried this first and each time I try to download it takes me to a 404 error message. So scrolled down to use the verification code option.

Also tried the option of inserting code before the body at the start of the Head :

That is exactly what I did and then uploaded my site and then clicked verify.

Verification failed.

Have you ever checked whether the URL of the website under 1 General in the project is identical to the URL in google search (for https including https: //)

If the meta entry after the upload in the source text on the server exists, otherwise before the upload alt ctrl preview to update, because this entry does not affect a single page, so is not automatically adjusted.
If you provide the web address, this can be checked gladly.

tried google search which still brings up spme old pages when hosted by another party --- they appear blank. If you scroll down you come to the correct pages that open ok

Way to valid metatag google-site-verification
1. Go to google search console https://search.google.com/search-console
2. login
3. go to add property and enter your domain http://www.clpr.co.uk/
4. Select html tag
5. Copy the day
6. Enter the entire line <meta .... xxx> in the project as described above
7. Upload the homepage after previewing it with alt ctrl for update the html /php code
8. Confirm the html tag at google (if it does not check the source text in your homepage if the meta tag is in there. (Works with firefox even if right mouse key is blocked.)
if confirmed,
9. Enter the sitemap.xml in google search for this domain under sitemap. Refresh and see if arrived.

After that you should gradually see results in google search and be logged in the search
Test in google with site:www.clpr.co.uk

The simplest way to verify your domain is verification via html file.

If you want to verify your site via html file, simply go to search console>then add your website>They will provide a html file>Simply Download it>Then open your hosting account>Go to file manager>Then upload the downloaded file>Then go back to search console and select verify

Although the use of the html file seems simple, it is separate and not embedded in the project. This means when deleting the server contents or changes as from http to http, s must always be remembered that the html file is set again. Once you've embedded the meta line, it's very easy and fast afterwards. the explanation is longer than the processing of the entry.
