Unwanted files and images have been deleted in X5 on my computer but after X5 upload to the host the old files still remain on the host.  They are not seen on the website but remain on the host taking up space which has a limit.  How are these unwanted files removed?

Kent, go to step 5 export, upload website to internet and connect to your server but do not click the green arrow to start.

Now you can browse around, select files or folders for deletion and click delete. When complete I would recommend a full website upload just in case a required file has been inadvertantly removed.

You can also use filezilla or similar to carry out the task.

thanks for the reply Esahc
I take it that the display is of the files on the host?

I use an old program 'ftp995' which shows files on local pc and those on the host.
The thing I find a bit disconcerting is that on upload unwanted files are not deleted on the host .... I have lived with that for a while (a bit rough and ready).
But now I find some files on my local pc that I thought were deleted in X5.  Is this due to something I have neglected to do in X5?
I was going to use the side by side file list in ftp995 to delete host files, but unwanted files on my pc X5 directory now complicate things a bit (also if I do a full upload).

Any further comments?

regards
Kent

Kent, yes, my screenshot is of the host as seen through the WX5 FTP export (if you don't usually use the built in FTP, please make much use of the down arrow next to save to create a backup, these are only made automatically when you upload through internal FTP. In fact, please regularly export project to create IWZIP files, these are MUCH more reliable than backups). If WX5 is regenerating/preserving these files/images then that is a bit disconcerting because I thought this issue had been dealt with.

However, I believe your best bet would be to run optimizer, it is supposed to strip out unnecessary files (and slim down bloated images) https://www.websitex5.com/en/utility.html Once you have run it, export to disk and trawl through it, please report back if the issue persists.

. . .  and a related issue https://helpcenter.websitex5.com/en/post/198905

PS when testing, please export to disk into an empty folder, WX5 does not delete content in the folder when exporting.
