QR Code tracking

Is there a way of tracking wether a visitor has gone to your site via a QR code we have generated ? I have heard of something called UTM Codes which are placed at the end of the URL of the page.. could anyone help please?
We are trying to assertain as to wether QR codes are still a valid reference in our advertising.

You could make a page as hidden page. On this page you make some code that redirects immediately ( or after x seconds ) to the page you want the QR code to land on. Could be the index page to redirect to.
This redirection page should be the page you refer to by the QR-code.
This way you should be able to see how many visits you have on the "hidden" page. This should only be visits that comes via the QR code.
The guest that uses the QR code will never see that he is redirected if you redirect immediately.
