Error -old link
Author: Mariana B.Hello!
I have a problem with some older links, that doesn t exist anymore.
When I google some products i find the older links that doesn t exist anymore, instead of the new links.
I had redirrected the error (the page doesn t exist) to the homepage, and the 404 error it cannot be seen by the visitors. The problem is that on google it appears only the wrong links and it is anoyng to google a product and be redirected to home page every time. The new links (good links) doesn t appear on google.
On the website are a lot of links like this, that doesn t exist but still appear on google.
I have tried to delete the pages with this problem and rewrite it but this didn t work.
Please give me a solution because my clients cannot find the products on google easily.
I have to mention that I didn t index the site on google.
Hello. If I were you, I would do this:

I have almost 2000 pages it is a little dificult to redirect half of the pages to the correct page.
"I don t have broken links. If i search on google broken links doesn t find anyone." - WebSite Auditor scans Google search results and searches for the addresses of your site that Google knows about. Then program checks these addresses. If there are no such pages, the program will show it.Perhaps there are free ways to do this.
"I have almost 2000 pages it is a little dificult to redirect half of the pages to the correct page." - you make a decision. You can do nothing. If you remove the page from the site and the site returns a 404 error, then Google will understand that there is no such page and will eventually remove it from the search results.
Mariana, sadly we all learn the hard way, I now have 20/20 hindsight. Faced with this problem I now usually create a new page and hide the old page rather than delete the old page. Assuming the site remains a similar structure there is no problem and user finds page thru google and can move on thru site. If time permits I add a redirect on each hidden page to the new corrected page.
But this cannot happen in hind sight, it must be something you plan for in the knowledge of how google works.
(It > En) ... you could use a server-side file (Apache / Linux), file [.htaccess] ... with redirect error 404 to an intermediate page, or to the INDEX, ... for all pages not found, as in this example:
http://www.kolasim-zone.it/pippo.html
>> error-404.html (timed) >>>> index.html
>> example >> file ROOT [.htaccess] >> >> ErrorDocument 404/index.html
Ciao a tutti

How can I redirect the old links to the new one?
The point is that I had renamed almost all the pages of my website and because of this are all the errors.....
Thank you

Mariana, if you have an iwzip of your site with the old structure you could import this, upload to your host (overwrite all), then immediately open your current project and upload it (overwrite all).
This is a cheap and nasty way to quickly put back the missing pages. Google would then have pages to land on?
