I've upgraded to V2019.1.7, and it looks like php has gone from V5.2.9 to V5.5. Does that sound correct?

My ISP is currently using php V7.1.4 - I hope it's backwards compatible.

Hi Donald.

I believe you're talking about two different things.

1_ PHP: it is essentially the coding language and engine that makes it so that many functionalities on your website work correctly. The emails are among these. At the moment, the best PHP version to have performance-wise is PHP 7.x, which is completely compatible with the v2019 version of the software. You can get this set up by your hosting's support

2_ PHP Mailer: this is the specific functionality that takes care of your emails. In order for it to work correctly, it needs a working version of PHP to be installed on your server. In v2019, it is updated to v5.5, which is compatible with PHP v5.6 or higher (like the 7.x)

If you have at least PHP 5.6 installed on your server (7.x would be better), then the version of PHP Mailer that the software is shipped with (5.5) will work flawlessly.

I hope I made the matter clearer for you

Thank you

Stefano
