Responsive Menus  en

Hi Guys. I'm  anew user to Websitex5 Evo - and I'm enjoying the features. I've read the page about setting up responsive pages at https://guide.websitex5.com/en/support/solutions/articles/44000786430-how-to-set-up-the-template-of-a-responsive-website but I have a query that I cannot find the answer to...

When I add pages to my site, I can see that it automagically creates a menu. So far, so good! My expectation was that as I edit each menu as shown in each viewport, the revised shape and size and layout would be specific to that viewpoint. For example, I tried to reduce the font size of the menu item's words in the smartphone viewport, only to find that font size had reduced in the Main PC viewport too!

I suspect it's my newness to all this and maybe I have misunderstood, but I thought that the menu size/layout/look and feel would be specific to each viewport?

Any help appreciated!

Thanks, Steve

The components of the menu are the same at every resolution (font size, button size, etc), but you can vary the size of the menu object for each resolution. In this way if the menu buttons won't fit accross the page (eg mobile), you can make the object deeper so it can be multi-row (although you may have to allocate more depth in the header for this lower resolution)

eg https://www.aquatrek.net.au/

You can of course hide the menu object for a specific resolution and below then add a new menu object with smaller font and button size if you wish. It will only appear from the resolution you created it on and below.

eg https://www.gutterpumper.com.au/

So, does that mean if I want the *same* text across different viewports but at different font sizes/colours etc, I have to hide the 'master' version and type multiple versions of the same text for each 'screen'?

(Just checking that I understood you correctly)

Thanks, Steve

Yes Steve, just be aware that Google takes a dim view of small buttons without much separation when evaluating your site, so at some point you may wish to adopt the hamburger menu.

Thanks Esahc

Good tip about the menu size and Google. I was also thinking about text in the footer too - and making that a bit smaller in proportion to the screen size (or does WSx5 adjust that automatically?)

Hi Steve!

You could use the Title Object for this, it has a specific function to resize the size, namely Adapt font size to the width of the object.

Thanks! Kind regards.
