Revert to saved version after crash  en

After a crash with X5 Pro open, the project reverts to the last backup instead of the last saved version. So I lose a day's work while every change to the website is saved and uploaded.

Is there any way to revert to the savesd version after a crash?

You can check the backup button in the open project screen. I hope you can find there a better update.

This depends on settings in the save button.

Best is to make a export project from time to time after a lot of changes, this is absolutely the best way but it takes more time.

There are no more options then these.....

Goodluck!

I wonder where the Save button is for then. If I edit a Word document and it crashes, I can revert to the last saved version and not have to resort to the last backup. Now you have to exit X5 to make a backup multiple times during a days work.

Should I make a change request for this?

The only way to create a reliable backup is step 5, export project. This creates a single file with all resources for your project.

If you click on save then doing so ensures that all changes are written to various files, mostly XML, but WX5 cannot control the windows filing system, brown outs, hardware issues or misbehaving apps messing with windows. If you select backup (down arrow next to save) the most important and largest files are copied to the backup folder. Neither save nor backup can guarantee the project is saved correctly (although 99.99% of the time this is obviously the case)

You can further improve your protection and reduce the chances of loosing updates by selecting backup on upload

WX5  prompts you to create an iwzip file, please do so, often!

(rename with date so files are not overwritten)

Ok, clear. But I already have this option checked.

But maybe it's not working for me because of the following:

I have several files on the server read-only. Mainly jpg files I don't want overwritten every time. Ofcourse the program warns me that the export didn't complete. Is it possible that with that warning the automatic backup is skipped? So that could be the reason that I only have backups at program closure.

Assuming you are using the built in WX5 FTP I cannot explain why there is not a current copy of your project I am sorry.

I have marked your post for Incomedia's attention in case they can shed any light.

Good afternoon

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "the last backup instead of the last saved version".

If the project crashes and somehow gets corrupted, the software will have to rely on the latest backup available to restore it. When this crash happens and the project gets damaged, there is no other saved version that the software can rely on to restore the working copy of the project

If the issue here is that seemingly a backup wasn't created when prompted so, it is possible that something malfunctioned and the backup copy wasn't created, but that seems unlikely. It is more probable that the last working save was that of the backup of the previous day

Unfortunately, there is no way to recover any more recent work than the latest working backup copy in cases like this

I remain available here in case there's any other info I can provide

Thank you

Stefano
