E Commerce - Paypal  en

A problem has occurred over the last few days. I have the Paypal Commerce Platform set up properly. However when a customer hits the "Buy Now" button it is not taking him to the Payment page but is merely saying that the website has a "generic error".

Where in the software can I get the "Buy Now" button to direct to the correct page?

The automatic email sent to the customer includes a "Pay Now" button and that does take the customer to the Payment page.

Help please

Hello. Please provide a link to your site. What PHP version are you using for the site?

I am using PHP8 as my ISP updated recently following end of life of Version 7. My webiste is being updated at the moment with some other revisons but the link is www.thecrumlinnavigation.org  There are only three items in the Product catalogue but I noticed today that emails are not being sent to clients either when trying to purchase. I have also noticed that the adding of itmes to the cart has also stopped - help!

In WebSite X5 under ...

5 Export > Export the website to the Internet / parameters

________/ email /

... check that a domain email address is used and also test the other options under "Script type for sending emails" apart from "PHP Mailer (recommended)". It could be that the old setting for "Script type for sending e-mails" no longer works after the change.

Hi Daniel W. Many thanks for having a look at this. All is working fine now as regards the customer getting a confirmation email and myself getting the order so I guess all the correct email settings are now OK.   However, I am still getting the original problem - when a customer hits the "Buy Now" button it is not taking him to the Payment page but is merely saying that the website has a "generic error". In otherwords only "stage 3" of the process is reached, not stage 4.

See picture attached - this is what appears after hitting the "But Now" button.

A "generic error" can have various causes. Since I don't run a shop myself, the moderators should help to narrow down the error.

Thanks Daniel. Ihave received lots of "orders" from you so that side of the sales process is working!  I assume you have also had the appropriate emails as well!  Thanks for your help - I hope the moderators can identify the problem shortly.  It only appears to have happened with the last WebsiteX5 update and the update to PHP8.0

I received 4 emails, 3 in the inbox and 1 in the spam folder.

The current version of Website X5 should also run with PHP 8.1, maybe that helps, otherwise the moderators can name other reasons.

Hello William

I've identified the issue

Please contact your hosting provider and ask them to disable the PHP parameters "display_errors"

Once that is disabled the website will work correctly

Thank you

Stefano

Stefano, many many thanks for this. I have reset the PHP parameters with my hosting provider and the website is working correctly. Such a simple solution. The [aramters must have been changed when my hosting provider updated the PHP from 7 to PHP8.  I will keep a note of this solution for future use as I expext PHP will again be updated in the future. Once again thanks for your help.
