The Website X5 program generates this metatag but why?

One obvious reason is to assist users whom have problems who cite their URL. However it goes beyond that in the metatag citing the version number and their URL. Naturally I presume they are getting free advertising to anyone who views the source. Is it illegal? No, is it moral No and should it be their in it's entire content, No. It could be simplified to just the version number - I would say, Yes.

Can you insert your own Metatag Yes, will it overwrite their metatag No.

Should you have the ability to change it , Damn Yes!

"<metaname="generator"content="Incomedia WebSite X5 Evolution 9.0.6.1775 - www.websitex5.com"/>"

In your case I can see the legal implications as you are the generator (creator) and your client is the author, so I can see a legal challenge here which you would win hands down under intellectual property rights in the European Court.

There is a counter argument regarding this and that is if you bought a motor vehicle, a Ford, leased it to someone, you can hardly remove the name badge because it is not Fords property - they still retain the intellectual property on the design and have trade marks. Yet in cases of modification Foose, then the item becomes a Foose because it was rengineered and no longer the original production.

So I understand your concern here, I suggest you put this up onto ideas also.

I don't know what is a "Wally".

I don't understand your reply, you can simply use "degenerator websitex5" in google and it shows few links.

However .... I searched for you ... one of these links is

You cannot degenerate something that has been created by the software. What we are talkng about has nothing to do with Google or links. It is to do with the source and purely the source. Google cannot edit the source only the software Website X5 generates it.

Maybe, we are talking about two different things.

The linked utility is a script that delete or change, with a little customization, the meta generator on your website.

I'm sorry if this is not the solution to your problem.

This is a degenerated website:

Yes we are talking about completely different things and the above link is not valid to what we are talking about which is Page Source.

Thankyou all for your replies.

I have checked the website link (which is in someother language).

But i guess using third party software as a solution is not  what i had in mind, and it might not be a proper long term solution, as it will require lot of trouble shooting and bugs will pop up.

I guess Website X5 should also put up a solution to this problem, as this is a serious matter, and alot of concern to me and my business, and other users also.

Thankyou, and waiting.

Alpha,

I suggest you create this as an idea to have the ability to edit it within Website X5, it is something they can practically implement. The physical amount of people that view source is very small perhaps a fraction of a percent. You can always add your own metatag i.e. designed by and your website address.

apart from this...

let's say a login or blog php-script is hacked... => targeting ALL websites is very easy => the verson number and autohor (inco) is given in the meta tag => all x5 websites get a nice "fluffy bunny" very soon...

greets

sdh.

Thankyou and waiting.

Alpha, you will need something at the backend in order to do this. Your ISP may have databases i.e. Open-Realty residing on their control panels and offered to their customers. Mine has. This would be the best for you to investigate. Short description: Real Estate listing system featuring attachments, flexible search, template system, Yahoo Maps interface.
Homepage: http://www.open-realty.org/
