Hi,
When uploading the site to the server there is an option at the ftp screen called "enable gzip compression". I know what it is, but is there something has to be turned on on the server side in order to gzip option to work? Or how does it work?

Contact your hosting company to see if it is enabled on the server..... Most don't have this and I was rather surprised to see it in V9 personally......
If your webspace is unlimited you don't really need it!!
There is also a tool online to see whether the GZIP Compression has been applied after you have used it..... Google for it!!

Hi Frank,
My hosting company has a different approach to this, with php.
Here was their answer. http://help.godaddy.com/article/4485?locale=en
Changing the html site to php does not sound too right.
I did check the site with this tool at
http://websiteoptimization.com/services/analyze/
It is indicating the site is not using gzip but it is showing 0 elements on the site and all the sizes are 0. It sounds strange.
Gzip is supposed to speed up the site download time mostly right?

Yes that code is for PHP pages......
Like it said it is for bandwidth, some charge on bandwidth..... But downloading the webpage to view on your computer should take seconds as they say. X5 actually optimizies images, pages etc.... So it already converts them to lesser KB's without the GZIP!!
Try a GZIP TEST:

Hi Frank,
The site you gave me indicates there is no Gzip used. I read about it, one of my competitors is using it that ranks high. I thought may be it would help. Reading about it more it can cause some problems too. For now I will keep away from it.
V9 does not specifically have "full optimize and batch" option like v8 did, but I am sure it is doing a good job optimizing the site.
