How do I get the media player plugin working on my computer. Windows 7 64 bit, I have followed your instructions with another user but I am not getting a result.

Can you help me to figure out the problem?

Hello Brian,

Which media player plugin would you like to install?  Windows Media Player?  Or the Flash player?  Or something else?

Are you attempting to install in the X5 built-in preview browser, or your main browser?  If the latter, which browser do you use?

Can you tell us what you have tried so far, where the process stalls, and any errors you are getting, etc.

Kind regards,

Paul

Paul,

I have updated to Website X5 10 and have followed the steps in transfering my project from version 9.

When previewing my site I get a message error ("couldn't load plug-in") Install Media Plugin!

I have installed the media plugin for my Google Chrome Browser and still not able to see videos on the site preview (same error message)

My OS is windows 7 64 bit - when I checked around there seems to be no media plugin on the windows site. I then followed the conversation that someone else had trouble with as well and tried to install the extensions folder to the Website X5 10 folder but kept getting an error message -

zip: Cannot create folder C:\Program Files (x86)\WebSite X5 v 10 - Evolution\Extensions Access is denied.

zip: Cannot create C:|Programs Files (x86)|Website X5 v 10 - Evolution\Extensions\np-mswmp.dll The system cannot find the path specified.

Hi Brian,

WebSite X5 uses a lightweight version of the Google Chrome browser to render its internal preview.  This lighter version (called Chromium) is distinct and independent of your main browser, and as a result you will need to install any necessry plugins to the X5 preview browser, even if you have already installed them to your main browser.

At this point I should mention that the need for plugins is greatly minimized if you use MP4 file format.  WMV format will require use of a plugin.

You can source the Windows Media Player plugin here:

https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95697?hl=en

Follow the instuctions for Windows and save the file to a convenient location of your choice  -  it is called wmpChrome.crx

Once downloaded, extract the contents of the file by using a suitable program, e.g. 7-zip

You should now have a folder called wmpChrome with 8 items inside it, one of which is the plugin itself...  np-mswmp.dll

We need to move this file into the following location:

C:\Program Files (x86)\WebSite X5 v10 - Evolution\Extensions

Make sure WebSite X5 is closed whilst doing this.

If you have difficulty moving the file and/or creating the folder called 'Extensions' then make sure you have Administrative rights on your Windows user account, or change to an account which does have Administrative rights.

Once done restart WebSite X5 and visit the following link in the preview browser:

http://www.vdat.com/techsupport/windowstest.asp

You should see a short video which will confirm that the plugin has been successfully installed.

If you also need to install the plugin in your main browser then you can use the same link:

https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95697?hl=en

However, the procedure is slightly different, and is as described on the page itself (you need to drag and drop the extension, etc.)

Also, have a look at this thread for further information on your issue:

Let us know how you get on.

Best regards,

Paul
