Your RSS feeds can be read from everybrowser, usally there is a seperate button - menu.

With firefox: extra and page info.

with internet explorer: it's button if you have that bar installed or extra -> feeds

On your smartphone you need to install feadready. (v10 pro)

Duncan,

I had the same problem starting out using it. it's difficult to explain try to test with it and see what it does and can do.

For one thing, you don't  login. you create a small message database, if your user subsribes to your site then the browser checks for new news items in that database and displays it, you don't need to check that site then over and over again to see if there is news. (it's usally not more then a link with info items.

This can be done with browsers and with smartphones by using an APP.

I can explain a lot about rss feeds, but there is better info on the internet.

try: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSS or search using google to find more info.

Hope this helps.

I don't know if it's possible to set it on your Blog. You can use the link menu to put RSS feed onto anything you want (picture or text). If you set it to your normal page than it works for all your feeds, also the one from Blog if turnd on offcource.

See also the help file in X5.

Duncan,

Let me help you step by step.

If you want an rss feed logo in your header (that will show op on your site as well as your Blog)

Download an RSS feed picture from internet.

Set it in your banner (or footer).

Set a link to it with action RSS feed. Thats it.

You can also make a feed like that speciale for smartphones, that link will only work if you visit the site with a smartphone. (you could make a message text inside the link for this)

It's the same as above only use not RSS feed in the link but APP Mobile.

Hope this is better.....

Philippe,

Once again; thank you. But your RSS link give this

This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.

Which doesn't help much.

Duncan,

Why not search for a news site in your own country, news site's have definatly a good working RSS feed and regurly update these feeds so you don't have to wait long to see how it works.

It's not that complicated, you get a link and on that link you can see the newest feeds. (it checks for feeds when you start you browser on the site you have added - give your browser a little time for this)

If you want to read them you click on the displayed subjects that are added to your link then you go to there site to read that news item. It's not more than that.

This gives you an idea what it does and then you will be able to explain it to your visitors better and also test your own site to see if it works like expected.

If you follow my earlier post you have that also in your banner or footer and also on the Blog. It will work for your site and Blog if you set it like that in X5.

Hello Duncan,

If you use the link function as example in the text object, once you have enables the rss feed in your project in the blog, you can choose from the link options RSS feed so this link will open the feed.

Please feel free to write back if you need more information.

Actually - sorry - not quite!

I have got the rss graphic and the link up on the blog page (I don't want it on every page) by adding HTML code to the side block on the blog - see http://radicalenglish.com/blog/index.php

Now, if I go to that page, my browser tells me that there is an RSS feed available. That's great.

But if I clock on the icon I get the xml file dispalying as a text file - is that as it should be?

Many thanks again.

Hello Duncan,

This happens because on the browser you have no plugin which can render RSS feeds. As example if you open it with Firefox, where this functionality is present then it would appear as a feed.

If you would have any program installed which is used to open RSS feeds then it would open this program and then render the feed in it.

Many thanks!
